Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows how the metal ring is attached to the cloth bag? also can it be removed and put back on with out ruining it ?   The reason I'm asking is, I have spare bag and want to try an experiment. I want to try lining the cloth bag with a HEPA bag sort of like how Texaskirbyguy did with his Kirby shake out bag.  Iv'e  actually done this trick to one of my Kirbys and works great. think it would be awesome to be able to try this with the royal prince since Royal prince type H paper bags are hard to find now.

Thanks

AJ

I Would Like To Know As Well

That would be nice to know. My guess is they were pressed in with a specialized type of tool or machine and it would be very difficult or impossible to pry it apart and then press it back together without ripping the bag. I have a NOS Royal Prince that I’ve never used. When I originally got it the cloth bag had brownish stains on it. I’m guessing it was caused by the material having some kind of reaction with the acidity in the cardboard being left in the box for years or the protective coating they put on the vinyl cord also can cause black stains o the cord and that may have caused it to but I’m leaning more toward the cardboard because it was on the bottom of the bag where the cord didn’t touch it. I’ve had at least 6 or 7 of these units NOS over the years from the 80s and 90s and they all have had it to some degree. Anyway, I found 1 made around 1980 that didn’t have any staining on the cloth bag, my unit I kept for myself was made in 1990 and if you pay attention to detail like I do the bag ring should have a sticker marked TOP that they started using in 1987. The sticker is clear so I think it would be next to impossible to remove from one bag and place it on mine without leaving fingerprints in the adhesive and ruining it, so I just leave it preferring to have a bag free of stains rather than be 100% correct and get a bag with the sticker that is stained.

They

Are either compressed into metal. They could have a metal snap ring holding them in. They could be glued.
The point is unless you bust out a grinder it's not coming off.

I've removed one once. It was held in with a perfectly sized, twisted bit of bailing wire pushed onto the collar. Only way I could remove it was to twist a flathead in the gap between the bag and the collar, and that made a hole in the bag.

Thanks !
I really couldn’t tell what was holding it all together. And didn’t want to destroy the bag . Even though it’s all stained and faded it still useable as a spare….so guess it’ll just go back up on the shelf since it’s really not easily removed from the ring.

Side note:
I’ve found that the Oreck XL Ironman bags can be used. You just have to trim a little off the inner and outer cardboard ring. It’s a pain but it enables me to keep using my royal prince vacs with out triggering my allergies.

You could just use the cloth bag

If this is only a spare just use this cloth bag without the paper insert. The only real benefit to using the paper bags is to keep your cloth bag clean. If yours isn’t that nice just use it, I’ve heard the paper bags cut down on suction quite a bit too. These were on the market for decades before they started offering the paper bags for them.
