Royal Dirt Devil Hand Vacs.

I have 5 Dirt Devil Hand Vacs. One is The Hand Vac 2.0, the other 4 are ones from the 90's. A black and yellow one speed 500 which I replaced the swtich on June 19, a Black and red 08100 Plus Hand Vac, a 2 speed 172 that looks like a 103, and a black and red one speed 500. I got a hose for the 90's hand vacs which came with the red 500.

I got the Black and red 500 on the 12th. The hose is in my garage drying, because the middle of the inner hose is still a little wet. Is there anything that I could try to speed up the drying process? I'm patient with filters or cloth bags having to dry.

I also don't want to damage or break the motors in these vacuums by using the hose while the middle of the interior is still wet. The Black and Red 500 was missing the belt cover on it when I got it. Luckily, I had a spare belt cover. The previous owners of it used it to suck of some orange-red dust or saw dust. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

Do you have another vacuum such as Electrolux or Kirby with an exhaust blowing function? Or a hairdryer?

You could rig-up a Heath Robinson affair to blow warm, dry air through the damp hose, instead of sucking moist air past a motor.

I wouldn't leave it damp for too long. Water may deteriorate the inside of the hose, or promote bacteria growth, then begin to smell.

I do have a hair dryer, but I'm not sure if my dad will let me use it on the hose. I don't have a Kirby because I think they would be too heavy. I may try the blower function on the hand vacs that have the bag adapter on the hand vac. I may try it with my 08100 black and red plus cause it already has the bag adapter molded into the casing. I also don't have an Electrolux with a blower function too.

Store it somewhere warm, but not hot, until you're sure its completely dry - such as an airing cupboard.
Suspend it as straight as possible, so that air can get to the centre section.
If its nearly dry, attach it to your vacuum and let air run through it. That won't damage your motor.

Use an air hose. Drive down the freeway and fly it like a kite. Vacuum with one and use a grocery bag to catch exhaust and put wet vacuum in your bag. You could meticulously take it apart dry it and reassemble.

I taken it apart and tried to dry it as far I could reach with a paper towel. The second time I took apart, I split the end where the adapter goes. I put super glue where the thing split. So I can't take it apart by that end. I also don't want to risk breaking the attachment end too. Earlier I checked, I was completely dry. Thank you for the methods, I might try the driving method with my Tricycle and do laps around the elementary school I live next to if I find a Hoover Self propelled Windtunnel ultra or If I wash the hose again.

I'll maybe make a video on my Youtube Channel running my Black and Red 500 and vacuuming the stairs with it cause I occasionally vacuum my stairs with these Hand Vacs. I do the stairs with my 08100 hand vac most of the time. I might also clean up the area where my sister's Guinea Pigs are with the hose and show my Royal Hand vacs off. I may make and post the video tomorrow also.

Just hang it vertical and leave it in the sun to dry, or put a fan on it aimed at the ends so air can pass through the hose.

Also, Les, these hoses are all one piece of plastic, they do not come apart at all.

In many ways the best choice of hand vacs.
If warmed the hard plastic ends can be removed from the flexible hose.

On Thursday, I took an inside inspection of the hose, the inside of the hose it dry. Thanks for the advice, I might do these if I have to wash another vacuum hose. Just used it today to detail part of my stairs with my 08100 Plus Hand Vac. It works great on my stairs.

Below it a picture of all 5 of my Royal Dirt Devil Hand Vacs. Placed in chronological order of when I got them. I tried to give The Hand Vac 2.0 to my Little Sister on her birthday. But she didn't want it. The bracket, extension wand, crevice tool, and screws I got from an attachment kit my dad got me I think 1 or 2 years ago.

I lost one screw for the bracket so I hope I can find the lost screw. The screw I still have is in an old bag packet that came with the attachment kit also. The hose came with my Black and Red 500 when I got it. The belt cover that is on it also came with the attachment kit. I was gonna use that belt cover for a Royal 501 that came with a hose on Ebay that I wanted.

Whenever I think about that listing or the time I tried to get it, I start to get emotional. The listing has ended now........ But I'm hoping my dad will take me to goodwill next Monday and Hopefully I'll find a Royal 501 with the Square pattern cloth bag. Picture 2 is a screenshot of a picture that had the version I would like to find and wanted.

I have the red one with the round belt access cover & two 1950s-era Royal metal hand vacs

WORTH THE $$! I always use 1 for vacing the car interiors; 2nd one for stairs; & the 3rd for upholstery & mattresses

They are assigned to specific jobs only; I use a canister or shop vac with straight suction only upholstery nozzle to get the bigger debris & some hair 1st then go over with the hand vac

The only problem I had with the red Dirt Devil is the paper bag cardboard prevents me from installing the cloth bag; & the area around the motor collects too much dirt which falls out when changing the paper bag

I know about the Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac. I see those at Goodwill sometimes. Haven't used one or bought one before.
