I put a random offer in on a 880 baby blue In good condition. Buy it now 80 I offered 50 plus shipping and they accepted. I was looking at 3 different 880s this I forgot about and the other two were bidding up. I checked notifications and said offered accepted. I love kirbys but this vacuum is very good looking.
I think serial number is 55787.
Im thinking 1987 or idk there serial numbers well but I have read up on royals and this is a good one. I have a prince 501 I imagine it came out around the same time since cord is royal blue. I have a 1030z from work and I just got brush roll in today after 2 weeks. This one looks turn key. Any information would be appreciated I'm no royal expert.
Thanks les

On Craigslist in Spokane WA a guy has a 880 Stark royal almost exactly like yours. I called told him I'd pay shipping and more than asking price. He wasn't interested hence ebay. Yours sounds real healthy. Does yours have same motor. Thanks

Thanks
For info.
Below is link to the stark royal 880 I mentioned. Yours is nicer but 20 bucks for one of best vacuums in Era.
Ben I plan to extend bag tube to take top fill bags like newer royals.
Do you have part numbers for brush roll bearings carbon brushes and in outer bag where bag connects to exhaust. I'm not talking about tube bags fit on im talking about metal assembly Hooks on exhaust. Last part number the headlight.
Thanks les

Les,

That 880 would appear to be a 1977-80 model, as the seller says it has a 3 amp motor.

Anyway, the part numbers you'll want to find are:
1-043271-000 - brush roll bearing (2 used)
1-672021-000 - carbon brush (use with carbon brush cap 1-672103-000) (2 used)
1-672103-000 - carbon brush cap (2 used)
1-120103-000 - bag inlet pin (2 used)
1-880629-000 - headlight bulb (120 volt, for 3 to 7 amp non-drop-in motors)

Hi Les,

The models with removable nozzles were the Royal 888, Electro-Hygiene 980, and Galaxy Prestige 990. The 880 did not have a removable nozzle. These models had a belt lifter combined with the adjust-o-rite cover instead of the standard adjust-o-rite over, and had a latch for the nozzle. Here's a picture of my Electro-Hygiene 980. You'll notice a tab on top of the adjust-o-rite. This was turned to the left to disengage the belt so the nozzle could be removed. Wish I had the attachment set for it, or at least the coupler so I could use the set from my 903 EH.

Thanks for the info. You're hygiene is nice. The more I learn about royal/electro hygiene/Stark the more I love them. There nice lightweight and powerful. I got my brush for my 1030z and that roller is alot heavier duty than kirbys. I can't wait to fire up 1030z and see the power.
I'm going to get led light for 880 and fire it up. Thanks again.

Hey
Nice pics. Royal really has good looking bags and color schemes for vacuums. Kirby I love but only 505 bag is nice. Royals bags and colors more aestetically pleasing.

FWIW......the Royal fist mentioned on Craigslist in Spokane (Reply #2)......I'm picking it up on Thursday. The owner won't meet as his/her house, so we're meeting 'somewhere'. We've done this all by text. I'm driving 3 1/2 hrs one way and I don't need this vac. I have another 3 amp 880 of the same vintage yet to be assembled and gone through. Since the parts are somewhat scarce, I'll use one for a donor if I have to.

If someone really wants this vac, I'll have the $20 into it plus my gas round trip. I'd be willing to trade or whatever. Or....I just keep it....doesn't matter.

I picked up the 880. The purchase was dwarfed by a problem with my car the 3 1/2hrs home. It was his mother's vac from the 70's bought new. He found accessory hoses & attachments and threw them in. He thinks he has the book that came with it too somewhere and will send if found. I ran the motor once home, seems OK as far as damage....bag say STARK....I don't think that ratchet mechanism for the handle is working properly.

I'll post some pics later if anyone is interested.

I decided to put the Spokane 880 into service as a DD of sorts. My other 880 is still in a box with the parts I bought for it on top. So this is my first Royal upright in actual use. Both are the 3amp motor. I'm blown away at the weight and balance of the 880. Makes my Hoover 1070 feel like a 20lb flat weight pushed by a stick.

The 'Adjust Rite' feature is uber cool and when dialed in right really sucks to the carpet type. Makes me wish I had more rugs...lol.

Don't get me wrong, I have great nostalgia for my Hoover Convertible, but I think in an actual cleaning test the Royal may have the edge.

As a comic aside, the guy said it had a new brush roll. It was so wrapped up with different color carpet fibers I had to take a knife and cut them out. Plus...there is a huge gouge in the brush roll itself, along with a missing brush fiber plug. If it was new, that was ten yrs or more ago. Since it was his mother's vac, to him it probably seemed like he just replaced it.

Certainly was priced right. He texted me that he found and is sending the original Owner's Manual. My baby grandson keeps asking me why I have to vacuum his carpet everyday. He likes it too.

"New" is a relative term...

Yeah, for many people, especially if they've had an item for a long time, a "new" part simply means it was replaced at some point while they had it. I'm inheriting a 1964 Oldsmobile convertible from my father, which has a "new" top that was installed in 1986 and has thus been on the car for more than half its life.

Having all kinds of fun with the 880. Found a compartment under the light that the PO put some lavender soap stuff in....to scent the room as you use the vac. I assume that this is what that compartment is for?   I wondered how the room smelled like that after using the vac....lol. Nice.....
