I have always wanted a riccar canister, the uprights are fairly common around here but never see the canister models. This one looks to be a bit of a mixed bag...the suction unit is so so though the power head seems solid. A bit disappointed it doesn’t have a metal brush roll though. Haven’t had much time lately to clean it and work on it but I am excited to try it out.

Hey

I recently acquired one. My cord sticks and the vacuum is loud. It's good but not riccar type quality. I'm going to Clean up new filters should help. I'll keep you posted hopefully it's good.

Great find, Cameron! The Tacony canisters made by Daewoo in South Korea actually have a better reputation & are thought by repair shops to be slightly better quality than the KingClean models, such as the Pristine & Verve, that came immediately after.

The beige paint, Riccar logo & wood brushroll in the powerhead indicate this vacuum is a early version of this model. Later models would be bronze in color & have a 2 row metal brushroll. It looks like you need a new wand, dusting brush & floor brush to complete it, but considering you bought it used that's to be expected. And consider yourself lucky you got the powerhead with the wood brushroll - When I was deciding to buy either a Simplicity Gusto or Verve, the 2 row metal brushroll in the Verve didn't feel as effective as the earlier powerheads that have the wood brushroll. The Gusto I own does have a 3 row brushroll, but on certain carpet styles it can cause issues in grooming the carpet the 2 row metal brushroll & wood brushroll don't have.

A few tips for you:

1. Keep the hose off the wand when storing it. These hoses were known to develop tears in the hose material by the hose handle. That's why the hose protector was added onto the hoses of the later models. Keeping it off the wand when storing it will prevent that damage from occurring.

2. Keep a close eye on the wood brushroll, & immediately cut away any string or hair wrapped around it. This is CRUCIAL with this powerhead, as one of the reasons why the wood brushroll was discontinued was because the endcaps can become damaged with hair buildup. When the endcaps become damaged, it also damages the part of the powerhead base the brushroll sits in, requiring replacement.

3. Use the HEPA Cloth bags in it instead of the paper microfilter bags. You will notice the HEPA Cloth bags allow the vacuum to retain their airflow a little better. However, don't get the official OEM Riccar Type H bags for it - Crucial Vacuum on Amazon makes a nice generic Riccar Type H HEPA Cloth bag, & the price to buy them in bulk is a little cheaper.

4. Avoid the EnviroCare generic HEPA filter available for this model. I made the mistake of buying a spare EnviroCare HEPA filter for my Simplicity Gusto, & the filter paper isn't the same quality or as nice as the genuine OEM Simplicity HEPA filter.

Take care of this vacuum, if you do you should have a canister that lasts at least 10 years if cared for properly.

Oh man I've sold a lot of these in my day. I can't believe there now vintage. You probably lucked out actually getting the wood brush roller. I have found over the years that the wood brush roller seems to be better made than the stamped steel metal brush roller.
