Don't you just love it when ebay sellers let their imaginations run wild on something they found, instead of either doing the research to validate their fantasies -- or else just not saying anything about it and let the item speak for itself.

e.g., calling this ordinary - but, granted, nice - set "a salesman's kit." All it is is a Rex-air with a storage hassock.

Don't these people realize how foolish they look when they make such uninformed statements -- especially when they are selling vintage articles presumably to collectors who would know plenty about the item for sale?!

And as to their claim that the Rainbow company wants to buy it, well, what that really means, probably, is that they contacted Rainbow, said "we have this really old Rex-Air, do you want to buy it for your museum?" The company replied, "Maybe, what do you want for it?" The people wrote back, "Only $5000 [or some other ridiculous figure] for this museum piece!" That would explain why, after seven days, they have not heard back about it from Rainbow.

I suppose this auction will go for big bucks, only validating in her mind the auctioneer's fantasies about it.

I was thinking the samething. THe person got confused that its just a very nice and complete kit. It was probably like most exspensive vacuums sold to a little old lady who used it once and then kept it in the closet for the rest of its life.

That's A Real Hoot!

About as funny as the one who has a GE upright on there with a $500.00 starting bid!! Or the Hoover that has been posted several times over the past couple years with a starting bid (or buy it now price--I forget which) of $290.00. If an item is bid up that high it's one thing, but to start the bidding that high is completely rediculous!

hmm, at least they listed it and didnt throw it in the trash! i see a 49 dollar starting bid. seems like a good deal for a Rexair person.

Right, I don't disagree that it's a nice machine and worth bidding on; I am just reflecting on the inane claims made in their listing. You see this stuff all the time with sellers who are trying to look like "experts" -- when all they really do is end up looking ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind having this myself since I have a "hassock fetish," but will not bid - hoping it will find its way to a loving Rexair collector.

speaking of funny claims... there's a TriStar in our local classifieds for sale which the woman wants $2000 for because she needs the money, she paid $3000 for it LOL
According to her ad it "works on air-flow, not suction so it is much better"
Technically she's right that a vacuum cleaner does utilize air flow and not suction, must have heard that from the happy salesman taking her 3 grand, but she obvsiously doesn't have a clue what she's talking about..

Well, I guess the seller's fantasies were validated, it went for $1225.00. I'd love to know what they bought it for originally, but I'm sure it was considerably less. I just hope it went to someone who plans on keeping it as a collector piece and not someone who plans on "flipping" it, although I can't imagine anyone paying more than what's already been paid...but then again, you never know!

Well, I have a feeling the seller will be relisting this -- I would not be at all surprised to see it again. The high bidder is fairly new to eBay and has only one transaction under his belt -- an 80-dollar "pocket trumpet." (Not sure I'd want a pocket trumpet but I do have a nice pocket flute, hahaha!)

He probably threw in a real big bid, not dreaming in even his wildest imagination that someone would try to outbid him and blow his winning bid up so high.
