Two weekends ago when I visited with Pete and did my dave-o-ficial survey af all things Petrolia, Oil City and Oil Springs I left behind my Laptop, decidely not on purpose!

Well, I could live without the laptop for a time but packed in the case wer both the cell phone and camera battery chargers. Ugh. So I did a nice one day re-visit to retrieve these essential items as this Holiday weekend I have an unprecedented THREE DAYS OFF! Since my Passport Renewal has not yet arrived in the mail I won't be able to cross any borders. Whatever adventures I get up to and report will be within Ontario.

Focus Dave, focus!

Pete and I regularly ferry vacuum stuff back and forth. This time I brought a Filter Queen aluminum floor nozzle he didn't have. He also asked about paper bags for his Fairfax, which he could not find anywhere in his area. Well, I know my local shop, Ellisons, carries Fairfax bags as well as many other obscure items we need.

The back way to Ellison Vacuum Shop in Stratford.

This two man shop has been in operation since the late 1950s. Ellisons will repair anything and there's always a score of customer vacs in the showroom awaiting pickup. Occasionally there's something really interesting and here's this week's repairs.

Yupo, you spotted it right away too!

A lovely, still with the original owner 50th Anniversary Eureka 'ham' canister in soothing green. Yes, she has all the tools, too. The green handle is solid rubber/vinyl and in perfect condition, tho I wouldn't be picking it up by it too often. :-)

Bill has not been able to find bags for this and had to adapt something else for the Lady.

Just for fun, I priced a Filter Queen metal floor nozzle - $66 dealer cost!!! Bill said I could have one for $33 but well, I have quite a few spares in a bin. Filter Queen stuff grows on trees around here. LOL

So I got two packs of 3 Fairfax bags ($2.95 + tax) and hit the road for points west.

First Day of Summer was hot, the kind that begs for air conditioning. (Today, Wednesday, we're hitting a peak of 31 centigrade, that's 84 F and with humidity will feel like 97F)

Pete is doing just fine working in the back 40 garden, tooloing around on his motorcycleplaying on the beach with his 'puppies' and picking up stunning vacuum items.

He found this pristine Electrolux model 88 chest. Could it be any cleaner?

It's equally stunning on the outside, plumply cushy stuffed and the diamond pattern is on both sides. One virtually invisible nick on the cushiontop. Colour is Eggshell and black but the vinyle has darkened with age and nicotine to a pale yellow. The gold waveform lines are molded to the surface of the material, not stitching as it appears. very comfortable to sit on, btw.

I brought along the early 86 and bumper-less 88 model brochures that shows the line of Diamond Chests. Interestingly by the time the 88 with the all around bumper trim came out the chest upholstery had changed to a flat padded vinyl panel with an embossed swirly design.

Then Pete trundled out this prize he found at the Petrolia Junqutoreum!!!

All the green tools for the rack and the green woven hose and the caster base. Wow.

I'd brougft along some large diamter Eureka bags wiith the cardboard ring but Pete's Ureka takes a smaller bag. I told him a Compact bag will fit perfectly. It does have the Eureka cloth bag tho. Dang, some old ladies certainly take care of their stuff. :-)

As are most Eureka woven hoses I come across this one barely leaks at all after all these years. The leak is entirely under that black tape and the reading jumped up when I squeezed it. We'll get that fixed up real quick.

You can see the hose and swivel elbow have been repaired with a bojack shrink tube.

And just lookee here...It's another 50th Anniversary model!

So wonderful when owners leave these labels in place.

You know I'm going to contact and stay in close touch with the Lady that has the 50th green ham in Stratford, right?

Picked up a few things myself, like every stapled plastic bag of vacuum bags I could find on the racks at Value Village. :-)

One never knows what's really inside as they just bundle them up higglety-pigglety. Among all the varied Hoover bags there was an unopened 3-pack for the Lewyt Big Wheels. Score!

There we have it.

Oh, Pete picked up this cute rechargable silverblue Electrolux Rapide stick vac with a charging stand. Motor driven swiveling brushroll and the handvac section is removable for portable use. I liked it. I've only seen them in Red but now I've test-drien one I'll have to have one. :-)

Eureka's 50th Aniversary.......

Beautiful Reka's! Those 50th anniversary stickers are great for dating the machines: 1957.

What do we all say when we "find" a classic Eureka vac?

"Eureka! I found it!" ....LOL :)

By the way, as much as I love the design of those Ergorapido's, they have been rated as very poor performers by Consumer Reports (bad surface carpet cleaning and bad edge cleaning )- the Black and Decker Pivot is a far better stick vac and is rated "excellent" for all chores. And be careful Dave...there is a recall on some of them by Electrolux - just go to their website for details... the battery can overheat and burst and injure the user.

I am coming over to play with all your Eureka's one day, Dave and Pete!

Brian (in stinky, garbage-strike-ridden T.O........)
