Rainbow SE Question

I've noticed that the hoses on my Rainbow SE do not have a rubber seal on the end of them to seal them to the machine. Why is that? I've noticed on the E Series that the hoses do in fact have a rubber ring that seals it to the machine. Another thing I have noticed and don't like is that the power nozzle doesn't seal itself to the carpet like say a Kirby would. Does any one other than myself have any complaints about what I've just mentioned?

Regarding the seals

I would imagine the hose doesn't have a rubber seal on it because to some extent it swivels a rubber seal could be worn down over time by that friction. The E series does not swivel at all.

With the power nozzle sealing older rainbows don't have a whole lot of airflow to them i think it's due to the separator.

Adam....first off, regarding the rubber seals on the hose. Yes, the E Series does NOT swivel, so putting a rubber seal on it would make sense, since it wouldn't get damaged over time with usage. Also, the E Series was the first model Rainbow introduced to have their 'Hepa Neutralizer' & be certified as a room air cleaner. Perhaps the rubber seals were put onto the hose end to ensure no possible microscopic leakage of dust around the hose opening on the canister?? Just a thought there....

Now, regarding the power nozzle & sealing to the carpet....You have the Performance Edition PN with the belt in the middle, right? If so, that PN, as well as the E Series PN that came after it that just added height adjustment, the belt being right in the middle causes the airflow duct which airflow moves & dirt carried away to be smaller/slimmer than normal....therefore chokes off some of the airflow the canister could deliver to the PN. And after all, this is a PN that many Vacuumlanders have complained about airflow not being the greatest, & considered a design flaw. Perhaps you should try finding another PN to use....such as a Eureka Express w/VG III?

Power Nozzle

I have the PN2. I don't like that the dirt clings to the inside of the walls eventually creating a blockage. Mine has no heigh adjustment nor valve. If the power nozzle had more suction at the floor I'd be sold on the Rainbow. My Kirbys still pick up more junk out of the carpet than the Rainbow does. I want the new Rainbow so badly!!

Adam....I do agree with you on the performance of the Rainbow D4 Performance Edition. I have owned 2 of them....first time bought one secondhand locally for $700 dollars, which lasted just under 5 years (previous owner abused it, but didn't find this out until later when needed repairs). Second Rainbow D4, found at the side of the road....kept it for a while, then decided to repair & resell it, but with a Kenmore Power-Mate PN. Felt the Kenmore PN & a Eureka Express w/VG III did a better job of grooming & better at applying the Rainbow's airflow to the carpet to pick up dirt.

As far as the new E Series E2 Black Rainbow performs vs. a Kirby G-Series? Well, I just took the plunge & bought an E Series E2 (First model with the carbon brush suction motor). Comparing the Rainbow to my Kirby G4 & G6, the Rainbow seems to clean just as well. And other posters say that all the models up until the new E2 Black model have had pretty much the same waterlift/airflow ratings. So, unless Rainbow drastically improved the waterlift & airflow on the new E2 Black, I think the Rainbow E Series & G Series Kirby's would be at a tie, performance wise.

Speaking of the Performance PN and E series PN (not counting

I almost replaced it but decided to keep it. It still does a good job even though that opening is a little narrow.....Mine has never clogged...I like the way it vibrates the hell out of the carpet, almost skips if you move across the berber carpet a certain way.
