So far, so good

Retrofitting an Ametek Lamb motor - 2-stage, 5.7 inch, double ball bearing into a 2100 series Electrolux

Tested the motor (used motor with low usage), runs much stronger than original 2100 series motor

motor is roughly the same size as the old one

tapped Lamb mounting holes for 10/32 screws

Modified original motor mounting plate to accept Lamb motor

(note, next time I will duplicate the Electrolux holes onto the Lamb motor, the Electrolux plate is fragile)

I added some metal tabs, and some washers to secure the motor.

Modified finger guard and mounted it to motor & plate

tested plastic motor cover for fitment

tested motor placement in a spare vacuum housing

Waiting for thermal fuse to come (thermistor), Lamb motor does not come with one.

Figure out which vacuum to upgrade :)

Got the motor cheap, brushes are like new - did I mention it is double ball bearing :)

Specs for this motor:

Motor Type: Thru Flow

Discharge: Peripheral

Bearings: Double Ball Bearing

Sealed Vacuum: 91.2 inches

Maximum Air Watts: 245

Maximum Air Flow: 95 CFM

Maximum Amp’s: 8.3

Motor Speed: 18,390 RPM

Great work!

There are Lamb motors of higher amps and more CFM that will also fit in the 2100 series.

I once took a 2 stage Lamb motor out of a Kenmore Whispertone and put it in a 2100 series. I made the horrific mistake of letting the wire harness come loose from the inside of the top half. It took forever for me to reconnect the wires correctly because I didn't have a diagram. One I had it up and running it was a beast! Also, if you ever get a hold of a Rennaissance style canister that you'd like to play with, you can chip away at the plastic around the motor fitting on inside of the bottom half of the body and the 2 stage Lamb will fit snugly in this also. I actually used the cutting blade on my Dremel to do this and then filled in the gap around the motor with spray foam insulation. It was a totally different machine afterwards.

All set, had to make a couple of mods to get it all back together

sound is similar to original, suction is slightly better

For me, it turned out cheaper than the prevalent Electro Motor upgrade for the 2100 series. (I got the Ametek Lamb motor cheap)

I purchased a new thermal fuse, and a dense foam gasket for the motor.
