Pre-war Hoover Dustette I just picked up !!

Hello my name is Matt, and I am new to this website. I am also new to Vintage collecting. I owned my own Carpet Cleaning company in New Hampshire and for 10 years and I currently work for another company doing the same thing. I have always been very interested in vacuums but recently started collecting. I recently picked up this Hoover dustette, and from other post I read on here it looks to be the original prewar model 100. Serial number 111464. I rinsed out the bag because it was so dusty but in really good shape. I think it has the original cord because it's fabric wrapped and the rocker switch. My question is I think it needs to be oiled and I'm not sure how to. It runs fine but it makes a squealing noise and starts out kind of slow and then full speed after about 3 seconds I'm thinking either it needs oil or there's hair and junk wrapped around something but I don't currently have any sockets at my house remove the fan blade. I'm wondering where you would be oiling this. Any info would be great. I also have another dustette on the way . Also what I think is a 1939 Hoover model 300 with the attachments in Caddy and the original receipt. Also a 1923 or so model 541. I will also post pictures of those when they arrive. They're going to need some TLC but I got a good deal on them. I'm really happy to have found the site and look forward to talking with all of you.

Taking apart this dustette can be challenging.

First of all, take off the switch cover plate. its held in with 2 screws. Take out the switch and anything connected to the switch. Pull out the cord. theres a big screw were the cord enters. its a big flathead screw. Its the worst part of taking these apart. Use a small flathead and manage to get it out. Then take off the sucking head thing. its held in by 3 flathead screws. Then the motor will fall out. The motors fan must be removed by the nut thing. Then take off the front bearing screws. Now ur inside the motor. Oil the rear bearings with sewing machine oil. Remove anything that's not supposed to be in the bearing like hair. Squirt some grease in the front bearing. Don't loose the spacers on the armature. Clean armature commutator with EXTREMELY LIGHT sandpaper or a cloth. Then put it back together. I Hope this helps.

I'm glad you found us, and hope we can help you with history of the machines you listed. I'm especially fond of the Hoover 541. There are a number of Hoover collectors here and I'm sure they can provide what you need.

Thank you for the info jim. I had it semi apart already but the info you provided will help alot , and thanks for the warm welcome Alex. I was wondering if you think this is all original with the black bag and fabric cord. Also what year about with a serial #111467.The 300 was supposed to be here today but fedex rescheduled till tmrw. Noooo lol. I wanna see that original receipt too! The guy I got it from in California shipped it to me in NH . It was his grandmother's she bought new in 1939 in Wichita KS. and he is sending the original receipt. The only thing is its missing a front wheel. But he's including a box of "GOODIES " so he sad it may be there. Otherwise I'll have to find one but for 30 dollars I'm not complaining.
