Guess I got over-zealous--at least with the older cleaners.
As far as I can tell the ones since 1985 (when the American & Canadian companies merged) have the first digit/last year digit code.
compactc9guy, following that code your AP200 was manufactured in 1979.
So maybe the letters are coded something like the GE/USA ones?
