I am looking for some advice on how to shine up a Hoover Convertible's Hood. After sanding it to remove the gouges and scratches, I have tried many polishes and waxes, including Scratch Doctor, Turtle Wax, SEARS Brand Car Polish, and Meguiars Clear Plastic Polish, none of which have been effective. Even after multiple applications of these polishes, I am still stuck with a finish that is scratchy and dull from sanding. Is there a polish I can get that will effectively smooth and shine up the plastic?

Go to a good automotive store and by a "headlight refinishing kit" made by 3M, it is a little disk that attaches to a drill and uses various different grits and polishes to get plastic to shine like a mirror again. I used it on a Electrolux PN1 cover and it came out like new, I'm sure it will work great on a Convertible hood too, good luck. Oh, I bought mine off of eBay, it was a few dollars less.

I think I might try it.

Do you mean the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration Kit? Are they the same product?

All of my cleaners are easy to shine up - Except for my Ranger (Convertible)!

I think the plastic they are made from is hard to get shiny.

I bought myself one of those electric car buffers a week ago, so maybe I'll try buying some of that polish you can buy for plastic and give the buffer a go at attempting to put some shine into that dull hood.

Success!

I wasn't able to find the 3M Brand so I tried the Meguiars Headlight Restoration Kit, which worked very well! Thanks for the advice!
