Plastic body Electrolux canister switch

An older lady who is a friend of my mother’s (Margaret) has a plastic-bodied Electrolux. I used to mow her yard and haven’t heard from her in a while. She told my mother that she is looking for a used Electrolux and my mother told me to contact her. She has an Electrolux 2100 or something similar and she says the switch is bad. She had a local vacuum repair shop try to fix it. The shop owner told her he didn’t think the switches were available anymore. He wired the vacuum so it will always stay on.

So my question is: Is the on/off switch still available for a plastic bodied Electrolux?

I plan on selling her my Olympia and she said I could have her old Electrolux. However she is almost 90 and the metal body might be too heavy for her. She has a hard time using her “sweeper” anyway. Her daughter wants her to buy an Oreck. But she is dead set on the Electrolux. She used to work for them.

If anybody could point me in the right direction, I would like to find a switch. I’ve searched the usual sites and have found nothing.

On Off Switch

These switches were high-failure-rate items, and I'm pretty confident you can easily find replacements online or at reputable shops.

First off, the electrical switch did not have a high rate of failure!! The problem lies in the Rocker Arm and or Switch Button. The earlier rocker arms had a low rise, whereas the later models had a high rise to them. Yes, both of these are available. If it actually happens to be the electrical switch, you might still be able to locate one, if not, you will have to order the complete wiring harness.

For posting that site. I plan on talking with Margaret this week to see what she wants to do. At least the guy wired the switch so she can still use it. Or it may just be the rocker arm assembly. Aren't vac shops supposed to have a source of parts? He should know the parts are still available.

plastic body Elux

On the LE/2100 styles you have the rectagular button,plastic rocker,housing and then the electric switch.As above no1 problem is rocker,rarely the housing and almost never the actual electric switch.Remember these were to be worked on upside down as US Elux service depts were instructed in Jan 85 when these came down from Canada.Remove side strips,put on bench wheels up,remove bottom starting from back to front.Then remove components from area needing attention.

Kenny what ever you do be very aware of the Elux guy there in tulsa, he can be very shady and gets kind of pissed sometimes when you want to fix "a worthless old model" however if you are as nice as can be he might work with you on this. His name is Ken

bump ..

I am refurbishing an Electrolux 2100, and replacing the switches as well, due to wires that overheated

The switches are still available, (not from any online vac store), and are inexpensive to purchase. (less than $1)

The bag lockout slide switch, and the one or two slide switches in the power switch housing are still being made from the same manufacturer (CW Industries). These are an exact match, except for the color of the actuator .

Specifically, the switch is a:

CW GF-1123-0025 SPST slide switch

0.5 A @ 125 VDC

11 A @ 125 VAC

Ratings are important, unlike the generic switches available for the Electrolux metal canisters with the round actuator (knob) that are unrated. Be safe.

A few of the door to door companies (Aerus and Filter Queen namely) have pulled their parts from major providers like Essco or Steel City leaving many shops with little to no options for purchasing parts for these machines. I think the reasoning for doing so was to support their authorized service centers rather than just allowing anyone to buy their parts.
