I got the sad news of this a few days back when I had stopped in for some parts. The owner, now 70, has decided to retire from over 40 years of servicing Kirby vacuums. The shopping center he is at is drastically raising leases and his is up at the end of November 2019. He is also an artist with a studio in Plano, and has decide to devote more time to his art.
There is no plans for him to sell the vac business so who know where one will go for expert, honest Kirby service and for parts.
With that being said, if you are in need of service and are in the Dallas area, you have almost one more year to get it done.
He has already started to liquidate his large stock of old parts units and complete working vacs.
When I was there, 4 classics, 1 Omega, and one Classic III were all available for $25 each. They had new belts, washed bags, and guaranteed to work. These would be excellent resto candidates.
For higher cost, there were many G-series, some pre-war machines, quite a few 5xx units, a gold G5, and a gold Heritage as well. Prices were reasonable, even for the rare vacs.
The parts units come with working motor units, a nozzle, maybe a brush roll, and a handle. No emtors, bags, or cords. They are $10 each and guaranteed to work. For $100, you could pick 20 of them. I am sure he will deal with you for QTYs in between. Models included lots of Heritage, Heritage II (many with small nozzles), Classic, Classic III, Tradition, and a few Omegas. Whatever units that do not sell would be recycled, and we certainly do not want that… I estimate there were about 70 parts units available.
There a couple dozen or more complete sets stored away that will be $25 and up, including 3 D80s, a few 5xx (some with black wheels and trim), and more.
Then there are the PARTS! Tons of new & used parts and NOS parts. Tradition headlight caps with locks and discreet lock knobs are available. Attachment sets for random vacs, too. Too much to list.
I am posting this to not only help the owner, but to help our Kirby community here in the Dallas area. If you wanted a low cost Kirby that is guaranteed to work, or want a good resto candidate, here is your chance. But do not wait long...
If you are passing through the area or visiting, go home with a Kirby!
Shop is located at Parker road and Custer in Plano, TX. Google it for hours and phone number. He says he would consider shipping some stuff, but appropriate charges would be required and could be costly when packed right.
They will be greatly missed but some times one just has to enjoy the retired life!
