Pic of the Day, the Airway vacuum was coincidentally spotted in an episode of Dragnet...... but it went missing.

Officer Friday and his cohorts are investigating and need to inspect a vacuum.  (sounds like a dream job, doesn't it my Vacuum lovers)

The housewife pulls an Airway vacuum from the closet..... but, it mysteriously disappears at the 19:49 mark.

The woman says they're lightweight but can they actually disappear into thin air?

Wonder how many sales they made from this plug? lol

That is very cool though, an entire episode centered around a vacuum cleaner!

The Airway vac I remember was this one.  After it shed it's sleds, gained a new cool early 60s paint job, and some sporty new hot-rod wheels.  They also changed the pivoting hose connection.

My aunt had this very model and she stored on her big enclosed back porch with the chest freezer and other things.  When I was three and visited them, I would take the vacuum and ride it like a toy car, or I'd get behind it and push it around while holding the support bar opposite the big wheels.  lol.  I think it may have bent the front wheel.

Anyway, I don't know if Airway made both models at the same time, or ......?  The sled version actually looks more early 50s, IMO.  The episode of Dragnet is 1967 but I guess that vacuum would have matched the set decor.

That was the Air-Way Model 66

Which made its debut in 1949, so if it were one of the first off the assembly line was already 18 years old when this episode of Dragnet was filmed. I remember seeing this episode as a kid and wondering for years what strange brand of vacuum that was....
