This is what followed me home today from a rummage sale. A model A131 Penncrest Convertible. I have too many vacs for my space. But I could not pass this up since I don't ever see the Penncrest version of the Convertible around. She was filthy, cleaned her up a bit, but she still has a long way to go. Any info you guys know/have on this model is appreciated! It runs like a champ & will so even more once I get her all oiled & a new belt.

If you have too many vacs for your space then you have only one option , get more space :) or get rid of less used items like couches, tables chairs other stuff that takes up valuable vacuum packing space.

Gareth, I like how you think! I do need a larger place, as that is the only option I think LOL

Bill, thank you & I also think it must be rare. This is the first Penncrest I have ever seen around here or in person for that matter I think.

Wow thats awsome! I dont think I've seen a Penncrest (upright) in person either. I have seen the Eureacrest stick and canister. Congratulations he looks pretty minty =)

I think this J.C.Penny "Penncrest" is a re-branded Hoover convertible U4001. When compared to photo's of a Hoover convertible U4001 here in the vintage section of vacuumland, it's nearly identical, other than badging, though it looks like the bumper strip on the Penncrest goes all the way around the body, while on the Hoover, it only covers the front half.

david brians pencrest is much older than a 1972 u4001...you need to revisit hoover historian tom andersons original thread from 2008 called hoover vault finds number....2524......tom cleaned out the hoover vault and rescued this model and so many others.....thank our lord for doing so for he has preserved them forever and even shared them via selling them on ebay so other collector cann own and enjoy them.....john long is going to post the pics of the one tom sold me a 1976 jcpenny hoover convertible 2552 i treasure it as i do tom he is an awesome guy.....revisit that thread and you gentlemen can see the actual vault editions of both hoovers including my hoover......it was so sad seeing them piled in the back of a pick up .....tom took them in cleaned them and restored them to their original beauty...absolutely amazing results.........

I just checked out the thread as you suggested, and found an actual photo of a Penncrest model A-131 in the same color. The thread can be found in the 2007 archives and is loaded with information. The Penncrest photo's can be seen in reply numbers 97, 98, and 99, where a tag dating the machine to 1966 can be seen, so yes, it's an older machine. That makes me wonder how many years that body was used, and how many different models used it?

BRIAN IT MAY HAVE BEEN FILTHY BUT NOW ITS MINT ......YOU DID AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB..I THINK THE HOOVER PENCRESTS ARE COMING OUT OF PERVERBIAL COLLECTORS CLOSETS....NO PUN INTENDED

Previous Penncrest Thread

David, you are right, the bumper does go all the way around the body.

John, can't wait to see the pics of yours! I will have to research the previous thread & check out all the details. Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.
