While this was an inexpensive dishwasher back then…it did the job well and served us since 1990 when the house was purchased. A basic GE dishwasher, a single timer knob and one option switch for “heated dry” or “energy saver dry”. If you turned the dial a bit past the first pre rinse it had a “light wash” position. I discovered…while vacuuming the basement (with my Electrolux model L by the way) that the dishwasher had been leaking for some time onto the subfloor under it as a drop of water dripped onto my arm. I checked under the dishwasher and sure enough…some sort of seal had gone bad. All parts of the unit are discontinued so no choice…had to let it go…we even had upgraded it 4 years ago ordering a stainless steel front panel for it as it was the type with the interchangeable panels and I found a company that would cut stainless steel to any size on line and they specialized in panels for various older model appliances..

Well it was kind of a whiny appliance but still worked despite the leak. It was in a summer home that is only used 3 months out of each year and not daily so it really only had maybe 7 years of everyday use on it. These models though would store water in the bottoms and that likely caused the seal to eventually give way over time

I've got a GE diswasher sitting in my barn that's a bit newer than yours, 2004 model, I believe. It has mechanical push button controls instead of the knob but is basically the same thing. It's black and would look better next to my stove, which has a black front but the white Whirlpool Quiet Partner II that I'm using works so well, I just haven't been able to justify the swap. But the Whirlpool's controls are all circuit boards and microswitches and it's about the same age as the GE so it's just a matter of time before they blow out. When that happens, I'll be ready.

Before I bought my house, I lived in an apartment that had a GE dishwasher pretty much identical to what you described. It had an almond/bisque front panel that matched most of the appliances in my then-girlfriend's kitchen but her GE dishwasher was black so I swapped the panels and made both kitchens look a little better.

Hi Jon

Those GE dishwashers were great. They were installed in millions of apartments etc. I have a brand new in box GE Pot scrubber Custom 900 that was given to me in '98. I still want to use this machine after some cabinet work is completed. Even though it will look a little dated, not stainless steel oh well, it has the black removable door panel. Huge capacity dish racks and some cycle options, this was a higher end model that I was given for free.

I wonder how the pump seals are going to be as I hear they were designed to hold a little water after use to keep the seal or seals from drying out. I guess what I should do is before I install it I can manually fill it and rig a hose up for the draining and see if it will run through the cycles.

What did you end up replacing your GE with?
