I seem to remember a thread not long ago about Panasonic discontinuing vacuum cleaners.  Being that they manufacture for Sears I was just in Sears the other day and saw all new models coming out and the website still have vacuums as well.  I wonder if this fell through.


 


Any ideas?

Check out Reply 41, in the thread below, where it says that a company called Cleva has been contracted to take over the Kenmore lineup. They have recruited numerous engineers from Panasonics previous plant in Danville, Kentucky. Newer product seems to have done away with the headlight but has better rear wheel designs for the power head. Non swivel hose with no angle is supposed to have increased airflow.

This is all that I know of so far from what I have heard of the Kenmores.

I wish I knew what was going to happen with the Panasonic line. I don't know if Cleva will have a "Cleva" vacuum line to replace Panasonic lineup or if it will just be gone altogether??

The machines are similar but not the same. Panasonic machines have tended to stick with the standard tool connection hose diameter rather than the bulky one that has been on many Kenmores which only takes certain tools.

I'd like to see a headlight equipped power nozzle return with different style suction unit for Panasonic line. I also hope that they come out with a similar style replacement for the Plush Pro nozzle. I've heard that one has been quite successful and it looks like a really nice nozzle. None of the newer Kenmore canisters have anything like that style yet. In my opinion it's a really neat looking style.

I haven't used anything Kenmore in a long time. But I have always liked their vacuum lines.  I have always liked the late 70's 80's model square style.  I have been trying for years to get a hold of the Sears Very Best from 1978.  The two tone Blue with the wood look and  long hose.  I had one form the mid 80's that was a really good model.  It was traded for my Rainbow. I sometimes kick myself for that. But I have always had my eyes on whatever Kenmore gets out.


 


Right now I'm extremely content with my Rainbow and Aerus Electrolux Classic.

Panasonic's Furture

Apparently, I have some more information on what's going to happen with Panasonic.

About 2 weeks ago, I sent an email directly to Panasonic USA about when exactly Panasonic will no longer be making vacuums in the North American market and yesterday I received this:

"We do apologize for the inconvenience. We are happy to advise you that Panasonic is still manufacturing Vacuum cleaners and there is no plans to exit the market."

I later respond to see if there are any new Performance Plus Platinum and Ultra Pro models coming out soon or if they are still making those models because those are the only ones that I hope they won't discontinue so I'll wait to see a response about that.

I've had others saying that they aren't making vacuums anymore but now I wonder maybe is just only specific models that they aren't making anymore like the Performance Plus Platinum models that are sold in vacuum stores.

I can remember when Panasonic Vacuums were top of the line, with a floor selector switch, low, med, and high speed button controls. All metal brush rolls and sold in Vac and Sew shops. This was back in the 80's and 90's. I know the quality isn't there anymore like they had back then and they are not as expensive as they were back then. I still would rather have the quality and expense compared to what they have now.

With that said, the same could apply to other brands as well, that are sending their manufacturing out of the country. Thank goodness for Kirby, Rainbow, Filterqueen, Aerus, Riccar, Simplicity, Maytag etc. The good Eureka's and Hoovers are a thing of the past as well, although they seem to have kept most of the quality in their Commercial Vacuums. The canisters for Eureka and Hoover are more in the line of the Mighty Mites and Porta Powers.

That's really great news!! Glad to hear they are hopefully sticking around.

Got an email back from Panasonic tonight and they said that they will be coming out with new models next year but didn't say wither or not if they are the models that I hope they will still be producing. If I rather choose which line of models that I hope won't be gone anytime soon, it would be the Ultra Pro Commercial models because just like the Hoovers and Eurekas as what pr-21 has mentioned, they would keep the quality on the commercial models.

Thank you all for the responses.  This has been a good thread.  I didn't think anything would happen to Sears Vacuums. That is a huge part of their success.  They are well known for great vacuums.
