Panasonic MC -5115 question

It's one of my favs that I have that was gifted by a close friend. The problems I'm having is a squealing noise when vacuuming and handle is at 45 degree angle. Could this be due to the new brush roll I put in last year? Also do Panny motor need oiling? I know it's a silly question but the motor seems riveted closed and no real easy way to get to the bearings.

Take off the bottom plate and look at the pivot points. The belt side. Sometimes the motor cover can be broken and the base will have alot of play in it, allowing the belt to ride against the wall of the base.

You can put new bearings in these motors. You do need to drill the rivots and reassemble with screws/ lock washers/ locking nuts. These motors use 9mm bearings, not the "standard" 8mm that's used in alot of other motors.

I've take off the bottom plate and the belt has been rubbing badly against the side but nothing is cracked or broken. I checked the bearing and they are fine, and turn smoothly and quietly.

I will note that the lower part does have play in it from the main body.

Typical wear on the nozzle and base. I would then suspect the rubber motor support on the belt side is allowing the belt spindle to travel too far front, making the belt ride outwards. That happens alot on these old 5100's.

Would wrapping the rubber supports in Teflon tape help?

Tried all kinds of different things in a pinch. I usually reach for a new(er) rubber support, and that fixes it. The one I recently did though, a plastic zip tie around the part that rests on the main body/ motor cover took up the extra space and fixed that one. It's all about taking up that extra space. These rubber parts shrink/ deform over time. That's what's causing the problem.
So, try the tape.
