A filter queen was dumped at my door step todAY

The cannister works fine but patient had dead power nozzle
I opened it up & saw what looked to be a bent fan blade hitting the casing
So open motor surgery was indicated.

The entire fan blades were bent sereverly
the problem with it not turning & was the piece I saw wedged in the case side
it was a plastic part from somewhere

Anyway bent all blades back into a workable position
figured out how to get the brushes back in as they popped out when I opened it.

Cleaned it out got the armiture? to rotate freely

Closing up patient as we speak

I have photos

I am now hoping when I get it back together it works
or else its major motor failure & I will need to be talked thru that operation...

LOL

I hate plastic parts!

I FIXED IT!!!

It works!!!!!!

I emailed the seller asking if they tried the power nozzle as it wasn't working? Maybe a button or some connection?

We'll see what they say but there is no way that that PN worked with that plastic part jammed between the blade & housing.
I tried to free it witout opening the motor but it was tight
Wasn't even sure as it looked as if the blade was bent & upstructing it!!!!!

OOOOOOOHHHHHH, SUCCESS IS SWEET!!!!

BTW FQ has some real bad flaws to there PB neck design!
Most of the machine is good.
Also don't like the cannister hinges
they don't tighten well

OOOH well least it works
PN neck though inside is broken
both screw holes that it attaches to PN body broken
One screw missing
I rebuilt & reinforce it as best I could
Works alot better

Arrrgghhh

I think that's it with this shot in the dark evac
as even if it works its cracked & otherwise disabled

Sound of FQ motor?

I seem to hear an increase in engine sound more of a louder whine as its been running a few minutes.

Not sure what that means if anything & what I should do
I checked the cone
argh its not all that thrilling a procedure
but come is FQ & its new

Other problem that had me laboring is one of the caster plates in bent down as is the wheel with it so its sort of on a downward angle & makes for difficulty to wheel it...

Well thats what you get for $75
I couldn't see these things

Listing started at $139 & went down over about 2 weeks so obviously there are some with eagle eyes.

Main concern is motor
I got the PN running at least though it needs a new neck cover peice & the screw holes to attach it to are gone
So in actuality it needs the middle part of the PN too

Oh I guess it really needs a new PN

LOL

Does anyone know if this is normal
Am I just getting tone deaf?

Seller said they used it 10 min to clean office.

Don't know how.
Must have made an awful lot of racket when that piece of plastic was bending every fan blade til it got wedged against the wall of the houseing & stopped working.

LOL

I could postulate that the peice could have got there during shipping but theres no way to bend those blades unoess the blades worked that way bent...it was hitting that peice of the motor

Hope I straighten a good position

Tried to get them back to where I thought they would be best with what I had to work with not wanting to go to fan & break off a blade

Actually the operation I thought went well

Sounds like you did well. What you have there a GS Electic power nozzle motor. It is used by many brands. It is good to know how they operate. Replacements are easy to find if you ever have any serious issues with it.

If the fan blades are not hitting anything now it should be ok.

What model filter queen are you dealing with anyway? I have a PN for an older one sitting in my basement.

I'd like to see some pictures of the whole thing.

Thank You Dr Lux!

It was a close call, I think I did pretty good if ?I do say so myself.

Someone was in the PN
there was electrical tape on the cord

Also it looks like all the lower palstic portion of the motor inside where it spins they are all broken.

Its Model D31X
I posted the listing for pics.

I have one of the cannister I took here
I worked all afternoon to get the thing going.

blade position

The blades were all in all pointing down sort of like a cone
A few on them down so much it was hitting copper on motor.

Are they supposed to be bent down into that open spot?
Did I straighten them too flat?
I thought they should be pertpendicular to the stem
even though they are all on a slant.

I just worked w the space I had & sort of eyeballed them

Did the best I could

GS part of Ametek so guess its good

May 23, 2001

GS is a fairly good motor.

I have a fair bit of experience with the GS motors. All of the 120 volt Dirt Devil hand vacs I have, along with my Dirt Devil broom vac (not the new cordless type) all use GS PN style motors for both suction and to drive the brush rolls. I also have a 17 inch wide Oreck PN that uses a GS motor. I might have a few others around and not even know it.

Not thrilled with the power nozzle

Sound isn't bad
not as loud as the pn5
but frankly the pn5 I just got
I think it's better though I just did a short test.

Nothing so far is as nice aspushing my Royal 886
Wow thats a luxury
Not so big on PN anyway
Wanted something that can handle a bit more as Kirby & royal have the straight thru design & you just can't pick up everything as I have a bird & he throws his seeds...

LOL

Crunch crunch crunch
the fan sounds like a food processor.

I'm still concerned about the sound of the cannister motor
It seems to get louder w a whine after a few minutes

Batting looks decent around the head.
I have seen somepretty dirty ones on ebay
this ones looks pretty new

Guess when I get a breath & some time
I;ll open the main motor & clean it all out

Least the PN is clean now & got all globs dust out of motor
Boy was the roller stuck w dog hair

Using a Royal is very nice. A Royal or Kirby should be able to handle seeds just fine, just avoid metal stuff like coins, nails, and stuff of that sort.

The changing sound from your Filter Queen is unknown to me. I suppose it could be normal but I doubt it. I guess it could be electrical but I could not tell you exactly what the cause would be.

I would make sure the motor brushes are seated properly and the dirt buildup is not excessive.

Well another operation...LOL

Kind of had fun with the PN motor
I am proud of myself for sourcing the problem & fixing it.

Some one had a FQ apart & in the tub

I guess I can check that thread & just wing it
I can most times figure it out as I go

Tell you the truth took me a while to figure where the brushes went as they fell out when I opened it.
Then I saw the indentation matched on the motor cover & that was it!

Yeah, one hurdle down
Nine to go

Still no word on Kirbys cord

I;m ready to strip a cord or two & splice a plug on the end

LOL

Operation 2

Went as far as I could but can't get aceess to motor screws til you remove the switches
lots of wires & connections
did clean it out
thing I noticed peaking in is motor or some housing round it is very rusty
good thing is there is alot of metal construction on it.

My guesstimate is this is mid 80;'s tho serial # seems to be late 80's early 90's

Guess I should of choosen an older model w the brown PN.

good thing is cone was new
aprefilter under metal cone new
baffle filter looks pretty new

put it together
few trial runs
that scary increase in whine
few times shut & restart

then I took it for a spin & it wasok
motor might need a cleaning
also bent wheel might make for imbalance?

Least it came along way from the way it came

Now still have to work on getting the motor out...

I have the samilar one

I have the similar F/Q,,, and mine is 1978 it runs perfectly,, and the hinges are a bit flexable, and they work correctly. Change the little round filter inside the cone,,that is key for these queens to run good. That has been my expereince with all three of my F/Q...great vacs they are..

The gang

Hi, Thanks for the tip
The grey filter under the cone is new
checked it
Baffle on top is clean too

It ran ok last I took it around
Maybe it hasn't been run in a while
Maybe some sediment got shook around in the shipping?

But that sound I heard wasn't very good.

Washed the attachements so it all clean
Was looking for that thread w the FQ in the tub
but couldn;t find it

Your FQ is a beauty. I like the brown PN

I;m starting to like the FQ...Not a bad machine
I hope this one turns out to be good

Mine has black gasket

Anyone know how to date it? Serial number is high strts w a 9
& I have seen some grey majestic start w a 8
PN is mod k-88
Maybe it has a new gasket?
its in great shape

Do I just use the cone? what about the medipure?
will that work on the older models?
Heard there was soemthing different about seating it w the older gasket?

Let's just hope it stays quiet today...
