ozone generator

Has anyone ever used one of these? I've always been curious about them, so, when I got my tax refund I bought one. You definitely don't want to be in the same room when it's working, best thing to do is run it while you're out and let the room air out after it's done, but it does work and probably cleans the air better than the air purifiers with filters do. Here is the one I purchased.

I'd like to see the research on this....if it's really beneficial or a gimmick. And what maintenance is involved? Longevity?

Can be dangerous if not used properly or for to long. Ozone is corrosive to metals as well. Best left to professionals to use when needed.

The vacuum shop I go to has one of these to rent.Some air purifiers do have an ozone mode.The ozonizers are effective on all odors.Typically folks rent them when needed rather than buying it.Ozone as stated is a VERY hazardous gas and must be used with great care-by a person who knows how to use the machine and knows the dangers of ozone gas.

Yes that is true that you can get air purifiers that generate small amounts of Ozone.

What nOoxy is look at is for commercial applications as you probably know. These need to be used with caution. There is math involved to determine how much ozone to generate and for how long to effectively destroy odors. Not for regular home use.

These ozone generators are for the extreme cases and to penetrate places you can't clean by hand or successfully remove odors by cleaning by any means. IE smoke odors from a house fire, Odors from someone passing away and not being found for days. (I know what that is like and is not pleasant and will stay with you for days)

You definitely have to be careful with it which I am, and it's not something you use on a daily basis. And you can't have any people, animals or plants in the area where you are using it. I don't have any pets or plants so that's not an issue. As far as maintenance, there are no filters, an electrode tube generates the ozone and a fan blows it out.

I have an air purifier that can generate enough ozone where the maker cautions you to remove people,plants,animals from the area you want to ozonize.I don't use the unit anymore-the UV lamp is burned out and can't get a replacement since the maker is out of business.Replaced with Areus Beyond air purifier-this does not generate ozone-except for a tiny amount from the UV lamp.If a UV lamp makes UVC radiation it will also make ozone as a by product-but in small amounts-not enough to be dangerous.The old Evionpure unit I had could be used as an ozonizer to remove odors from a room.

Ozone Generator

I have an older model Ozone generator, a Salon Aire 2000, that was given to me years ago when one of my former employers was cleaning some junk out. It runs very well, and is super effective at cleaning the air of foul odors, but my wife couldn't stand the ozone "smell" in the house and it now resides on a shelf down in my basement! I know they were extremely expensive machines new, but I imagine one of these could be purchased relatively cheap now. While I've only ever used mine sparingly, I didn't realize just how dangerous these machines were! Guess mine will remain a shelf dweller!

I really only use these for deodorizing vacuums with foul smells. Just have it suck the ozone through until all you smell is ozone, then let it run for a minute and thentuen it off before turning off the ozone machine.

Good for deordorizing cloths, get a big box, cover the purifier and laundry basket, run for a bit and they’ll smell like they were outside.

You do have to be careful with them though.

I've used Alpine Industries ozone/ionization purifiers since late 1990's w/o negative effect. I clicked on the OP's link but it wasn't working so I didn't see exactly what he was referring to. The Alpines are never a problem b/c they never produce enough ozone to be harmful, less than 50ppm(parts per million). The have, as well I have still, many testing results and convincing scientific articles about the safety of ozone....at or below that level!!!! I know many more companies have made them since then....but don't know if they made them to the same standards as Alpine (ie Ecoquest)

Bel.eive EcoQuest is now owned by Aerus.Have two older EcoQuest purifiers I can't get parts for.The Aerus place says that may change.Both need UV bulbs.
