One thing I noticed after buying my Bissell Zing is that they seem to sell very expensive bags and filters. I suppose that sort of makes up for them being so cheap, if people even know about replacing the filters. My grandma didn't even know that her Bissell had a post motor filter on it.

That's the thing I noticed too - with my Bissell, the post motor filter is not washable and gets dirty quite quickly, even though the pre motor filter is washable, I found that the cost of replacing the post motor filter was £12 a time or $18, and Bissell recommended I replace it every 6 months - yeah, right! That works out at $36 a year or $180 over 5 years just for a cheap quality paper "Hepa" filter. that's how they get you - not on the cost of the cleaner but on the cost of the filters for it.
