Oreck XL 21 Is a Tough Tough Vacuum!

So At my grandmas, we have all kinds of messes to clean up, our puppie chews up everything. In the kitchen theres wrappers twist ties rocks from the back door that have been tracked in, and everything. Occasionaly theres a coin of some sort like a dime of quarter, they usually get picked up when not seen! I couldn't believe that neither the fan or fan housing, has been damaged. The time push pins got picked up, was kinda funny. Lol. It just rolled them around for a little while than, CHUNK! Up in the sweeper it went. I've not had any problems with it. Tell a similar story to this! I'd love to hear!

These later XL's can be especially talented at putting up with abuse. The fans are so small and tough. Sometimes the fan housing lets go before the fan even cracks at all. Whatever the "MetaXalloy" fan is made from, it's pretty darn impressive.

I can honestly say, with my six years at Oreck, I've never seen a broken fan. Now fan housings, I see a few of those a month. That's what breaks when something too big and hard gets in there, the fan deflects it against the fan housing. I've seen fans with nicks in them. Rarely are the fans in bad enough shape to recommend a new one. I wish they could come up with something as tough for the fan housing. If the machine is still under warranty, we cover the fan housing, even if it's neglect or abuse. That's one thing I'll say for Oreck, we do stand behind our product.

Unfortunetly you don't get them in SA officially , plenty around though, as a company importing them unofficially but it didn't last as the cheepest one was about $100.00 more expensive than the most expensive dyson and sebo.
Great machines though
I hope someone can get them here officially.

When they come in my shop its either for a belt change or a damaged cord , never repaired any thing else on them.

I would stock them if they sold them here properly

I have seen broken fans and fancases quite often out my way-and the Oreck that I bought from a yard sale last year--broken fancase-several holes in it,broken fan-was the "Metalaxolly" or whatever-Did a bag autopsy and found severl coins,nails,screws and a couple of keys-now what did those go to?and the cloth outer bag was torn.the vac place out here has a good stock of Oreck fancases and fans.they come in all of the time to his shop with broken fans and fancases.and another Oreck that was used by a restuarant-fancase was OK-but full of grease-fan eroded completly down-no blades.the grease and stuff in it did in the fan.If you are an Oreck user-don't let the machine pick up too many coins and such.It is hard on the fancase and fan.Would be better if these parts were METAL.

Hi all. I've always been told that most dirty fan manufacturers use a high quaility plastic instead of metal so that the break point is the fan/chamber. Cheaper to replace a fan etc than replacing a burnt out motor because the fan got jammed up??

I had a Oreck come in once where the motor had burnt out as a sock or was it underwear that got wrapped around the fan.
Mind you I had a dirty fan Electrolux upright have the fan damaged as the realative sucked up the same kindda thing. Lucky the fan went and not the motor.

Suppose it goes for the rubber belts. Better a belt break than the motor burn out if you catch something in the brush roller.
