Oreck's Newest

The new design is something you have to look at several times to find out if you like it. It may look different in reality too. I never gave Oreck a second look and DID NOT like the first Oreck I bought several years ago but when I got my Oreck Platinum I changed my mind. I really like the machine. It is very user frinedly and easy to use.
As far as the looks of the new Magnesium, I had a friend visiting one time who knew a lot about good design (not a vac collector) and he was horrified when he saw my Dyson. He was comparing the beautiful design of the Compact and the design of its tools to the Dyson which he thought was very cheap and even hard to look at with all the plastics. I had NEVER thought about it from a design angle only being a vacuuum collector. When I stood back and looked at the two machines (if you did not know which one was the new one) I had to admit the sleek,smooth shape of the Commpact did look more modern. So maybe this is the way with the new Oreck. It will take us some time to adjust to the new look.
I was a little taken back by moving the power switch and changing the comfortable handle which were both features I liked on the Platinum.
