Oreck Brushroll going bald

My Mom’s Oreck, which never gets used because she uses the Kirby G5 because it works better with her carpal tunnel, has the bristles coming off the brush roll any suggestions on what might be causing this to happen. It is a 40th Anniversary Edition she bought new from QVC in 2002. I am going to replace the brush roll but also want to fix the problem too.

Her Oreck is more like her back up vacuum because she got it because her carpal tunnel made using her Kirby Classic (bought new in 1974) too hard for her to push. I then bought a used G4 (for me) after she got the Oreck and she fell in love with that machine. She even threatened me if I was to move out and take it with me because I was in college at the time. In 2007 the G4 was in the first load of stuff that went to the townhouse my wife and I moved into because it was a rental and I vacuumed it wall to wall when empty with the G4. After a few months and a few complaints of her hating her Oreck I got her a G5.

For some balding is just part of aging. Maybe your brush roll just didn't get good genes.

Ok, Seriously, I'm thinking that if this is the original brush roll, and it was bought in 2002 it is eight years old at this time. Possibly the bristles are getting brittle, and just a replacement is in order. I almost feel that unless she is cleaning something very rough ont he brush that this will eleviate the problem. If this were a defect of sorts I would feel that this would have manifested earlier in it's lifecycle.

Oreck maintenance...

Orecks work very well if maintained. It should have a new belt at least once a year, as with any upright IMHO, and I advise my customers a new brushroll every 3-4 yrs. if used regularly. Shop around for a good price, they're 39.00 at the Oreck stores.

Oreck Prices wow

My Mom's friend had her Oreck Serviced at the Oreck Store in Fairfield CA and it was $189. From what they can tell it was a new brushroll, belt and paper bag and it was "cleaned up". To quote my Mom "I bet you could have done it just as well and for less."

The two Oreck stores in town here are outrageous. Thus the reason they are attempting to sell them, and ultimately the reason for their soon-to-be demise. To add a bit of insult to injury I've decided to run another full page ad offering free tune-ups and belts to all Oreck owners. For those of you with stores, this is a great way to bring in customers and relinquish Oreck's hold on them.

Wow is right...

Hey Ryan, a normal tune-up at an Oreck store is 39.00, which would include sanitizing, new seals, armature cleaned off with a diamond stick, bumper/fan housing washed, outer bag vacuumed, new belt and bag, and a brushroll would be an additional 39.99. It they are indeed an Oreck store and not a multi-line store, and charged 189.00 they need to be reported. Geez, I hate to hear crap like that. Most of the Orecks purchased in the last few years come with free tune-ups, depending on the model, but it's amazing how many people don't bring them in until there's an issue of some kind, and then of course, "it's not picking up"!

The piano store I work for has an Oreck Commercial and the brush roll goes bad every couple of years. The local dealer here is very friendly and replaced the brushroll free the first time it wore out. Is still doesn't work as well as the old Sanitaire we have there also.
