Hi all,

I am trying to remember a vac from my childhood, and see if someone can give me an idea of what it might have been.

I remember an old vacuum that we had in the basement that was in the style of a Kirby or a Royal in that it had the wide carpet nozzle like those two brands have. It also had a light "desert" brown bag with red lettering running down the side of it. It was bare metal, not painted, and appeared to me to be from the 40's to the 50's.

Hopefully that's not too vague of a description. I don't expect someone to come up with an exact model number, as that would seem impossible. I was wondering what brand it likely was. I'm thinking it was a Royal, as I've never seen a Kirby that matched the description.

Sadly, it was pitched many years ago. the bag was falling apart, and the motor was in bad shape.

Any help on this would be much appreciated!

That sounds almost like a General Electric. Here is a photograph I found from the archives. I have run across GE pictures with more brownish bags, but all of them have practically the same base. Is this anything close to what you remember?

The bag in the second pic is closer to the color. It's been so dang long though it's hard to tell.

Thanks for the help Kirbykid!

Kirbykid,
I don't think so. The bag was the color of the one in the second pic, but it had red lettering going vertically down it.

I would almost swear it was a Royal, but I could be wrong.
I remember pushing it around as a small child and asking my Dad why it didn't work, but other than the color of the bag, and the basic shape of it, I can't think of more details.
I'm pretty sure I'd know it if I saw one like it though.

Thanks for helping me with this!
