wholly doodle that's way more than I'd have expected it to go for. I'll bet had they put a BIN price $300 they wouldn't have even got a bite for it the odd way things work on Ebay sometimes.

all can say is that the seller is not to far from me. maybe like 2 hrs but DANG!!!! that pumper went for a lot. hope someone resores it seeing that he paid $660 or it

The Kotten....

is an extremely rare example of early bellows-pumping-action machines. The Hoover Company had one of the few remaining ones left in their collection, as I recall. You might very well be looking at a piece of Hoover No. Canton history being sold. It wouldn't surprise me. Or it might still be in the Historical Center, if that's where it was residing.

Hoover had one completely remade actually. I want to say they just reproduced it, while keeping the original on display. And you can actually hop on and get a workout while trying it in the Historical Center.. Or have another person do the pumping, another person do the vacuuming.

Yes, The Hoover Historical Center has an original 1910 Kotten. The second one was copied in every detail right down to the fittings and decals, and built in the North Canton Shops as a demonstrator.

Anne, or any docent leading a tour, takes mischievous delight coaxing visitors to hop on and give it a try... this is hard work on the legs...if you can keep your balance while wielding the wand. I'm sure in practice this was a two-staff job, as Fred says.
