I have not yet seen the new Constellation so I don't know how the motor is mounted inside. I am wondering if it might be possible (speaking of Dr. Moreau, haha!) to replace an old Connie motor with one of the new ones. I would love to have a super-charged Connie <br

Hey Charles

I'll take a picture, but I am almost positive that the motor mount is completely different. Jeff Parker may be able to shed more light

well...

The motor in the new connie is smaller in size, and more enclosed in stuff..
However the Connie's old and new are the same size...so maybe all the guts could be transferred from one shell to another... <br
I shudder to think of how a J bag would handle all the airflow from the new connie!

I guess I should clarify,

what I mean when I said I haven't seen the new Connie, I meant I haven't see it "in person" -- I have seen photos etc. but not the real thing. I think it would be a hoot to hot-rod one just for fun.

Old and new

Hey Charles Richard <br
Although the design is very similar, on the outside--the inside is a bit different. I would think that with a little engineering, one could put a new Connie motor into an old machine. The motor mount on the bottom is a bit different, and a gasket at the top of the motor would need to be made so the new motor sits tight inside of an old cleaner. A heavier-duty cord and switch would also need to be used, seeing as how the new Connie uses 12 amps, and the old cords and switches did not have to deal with nearly that much power flowing through them <br
Here are some pictures of the "guts" of the new Constellation <br

New constellation

Yes, there's no doubt the new Connie is a well made machine. I made sure I ran right out and bought one as soon as I found out Hoover was bringing it back. But one thing puzzles me about the new Constellation - why do they put a suction "weep hole" under the handle? This is going to take suction away from the hose (however slight). I covered mine up with tape and have had seemingly no ill effects.

I may be able to shed some light on the weep hole...

Electrolux has done the same thing from the model G on. It is a "safety" feature so that the motor has a minimum amount of cooling air if the hose were completely blocked for a period of time. Lux ran theirs from the bag chamber into the cord winder by a small pipe, or later a plastic tube, where the motor could get outside air.
