Newer Lux Legacy not a sealed system

Anyone else notice their newer Electroluxs are not a sealed system? I went to use the blower function on my Legacy yesterday (to blow out another vac) thinking the exhaust would be fairly powerful. Well, it's not! It was blowing air out the opening for the cord winder and hole on the top for attaching the tool rack.

It sucks because my 2100 is sealed and is as powerful on the exhaust as my Tristar. I thought about opening the Legacy up but there is probably no reason to do so. All of them are probably that way.

What's funny is that is the exact same mold and shell they used for the Electrolx LE, which was the bottom of the barrel bargain bin model of the early 90s.

It might be a part came loose inside and it's letting air through, but not sure how these were built.

These machines are so easy to take apart, it's definitely worth opening it up to see if something has come dislodged inside. Once you get the case open, which takes, at most, a large flat-blade screwdriver and a hammer to dislodge the side strips so you can slide them off toward the back, you can pretty much remove and install components by hand with no tools. I'm more a fan of the earlier metal canisters but I do have a certain respect for the elegance of the plastic canisters' design.

I didn't think any of their models except for the Lux Platinum were sealed systems. If you use HEPA bags then it shouldn't be a big deal.

Nothing is wrong with it

Nothing is wrong with the machine. It is not a 100 percent sealed system. Where the wires come out of the motor housing is where the air is leaking. It's not like the older models that had the wire connections built into the motor housing. It's normal. The platinum is the only one that is a true hepa sealed filter machine.

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking. It looks like it hasn’t been used that much so I’m thinking it’s probably just the way it is. Which really doesn’t matter that much to me. I’ll use one of my other machines for a blower.

Did U buy the Legacy new?

If its 'n2u' (new to U) U can put a weatherstrip seal around the motor/baffle

My 2100 leaks air around the handle & under the unit

Wasn't the Guardian Ultra (which looked similar) advertised as a sealed system? It probably had a different mold because it had a smooth (non-textured) body. For the life of me I cannot understand why the Lux Legacy and even Classic didn't inherit the Guardian Ultra's HEPA filter and sealed components when the Ultra was replaced by the Platinum. I keep hoping that the next color iteration of the Legacy and Classic will finally inherit the Ultra's seals and filter. Photo of an Ultra for reference.

Yes my Guardian Ultra is sealed unlike my 2100 which blows unfiltered air everywhere

I bought the Guardian Ultra brand new around 2009-10 (I requested the 'Classic style' hose, wands, tools & PN instead of the stock accessories that usually come with the Guardian Ultra)

The 2100 leaks unfiltered exhaust air around the cordwinder 'hole' & from the carrying handle, so I put weatherstrip seal around the motor/housing & it solved the problem

I'm hoping Aerus will discontinue these ancient designs and upgrade their machines. They need new sealed body molds and improved filters.

They do have the Lux Guardian Platinum that is highly sealed and has several filters. They choose to make varying levels of models to suit the varying levels of customers. I do think though that it would be a good idea to upgrade the Classic and Legacy to have a better filter and be sealed like the Lux Guardian Ultra is/was. I found it interesting that that model was only made for one generation, replacing the R style canister which I never liked frankly. But then they decided to delete it in favor of the machine made by Lux of Switzerland for the Platinum. Admittedly the platinum completes better in the top of the line market, but odd they would not have just changed the Lux Legacy to use the previous Lux Guardian Ultra’s sealed system since they went through development to make the product. Maybe the next revision we will see this. It should be coming soon. Usually the pattern seems to be every 6 years there is a revision of some sort...if for nothing but a color change.

I'm assuming that when Aerus celebrates their 100th anniversary in four years, that's probably when they would come out with either new models or revisions.

So for non sealed systems......say you do use a HEPA bag......wouldn't you still have carbon dust leaking somewhere?
