New thrift store find

I found this oreck 9100 at my local thrift store. It was NASTY but it cleaned up beautifully, and looks brand new. I am not sure what year it’s from but it cleans great. The fan is metal and slightly chipped but it makes not excess noise.

I may be in the minority, but there's just something about Orecks that I like.
Maybe it's because it was the first vacuum that I ever bought new.
I would think the outer bag on yours has probably been replaced at some point. Simply because of the red trim. But, I'm certainly no expert. I'm learning of different colors and versions all the time.
As for the year it was made, it should be on the model/info tag on the back of the base. That's how all of mine are anyway.

I gave it to a friend.  I chuckled when the back of the tube read: WHEN the tube blocks,,,,, not IF, but when..

Looks like one I picked up at Goodwill a few years ago for $2. I had fun doing a little refurbishing on it, but in the end, I just never warmed to it and thus donated it to my church's rummage sale, along with a Filter Queen Majestic I also disliked. I hope they got more than $2 for it.

See…I said I was certainly no expert.
I was just watching an old Oreck commercial on YouTube. And, the vacuum that Mr. Oreck was showing looked like the same style as yours; including the red trim on the bag! So, maybe yours is all original.
Just thought you might like to know!

Years ago, when I was a kid, my mom bought me an old XL9100 from a local auction. Terribly basic, not too noisy, and I absolutely adored it. At one point when I was cleaning the section of carpet off in the garage, I managed to suck up a 22 caliber bullet... And it went off when it hit the fan! There was a loud crash and a puff of smoke from the bag, so I quickly shut it off, tore the bag open, and there was the bullet and shell! Didn't seem to damage the fan and it still ran fine so I suppose there is something to be said for the durability of the old models with metal fans!

Nowadays, I have three XL 21 variants; an XL7, an XL Legend, and a Platinum HEPA. The seven is the clean up vacuum for the back bedroom, the Legend is for my cleaning business, and the Platinum is for home use. The seven and Legend use cheap paper bags, and the Platinum is spoiled with premium genuine HEPA bags. I ended up swapping the Platinum to one of the aftermarket CWP brush rolls with the metal pulley and stiffer bristles, it agitates the carpet very nicely I think. I seem to prefer the XL21 style over the standard models - they're quieter, have a bit more airflow, and the handle is just comfortable for extended use. Some out there still don't love Oh what a wrecks, but I don't mind them at all.

I've got one of those myself!

Mine was a trash find by my 3rd grade teacher. She used it in her classroom for about a year, then when she retired, she gave it to me. Cord was chewed up, and bags didn't like to stay attached to it, but it's a good quick clean-up vacuum. It also groomed my carpet fantastically and agitated decently for being... well, an Oreck. Hoping to replace its headlight bulbs, and get a CC bag dock to run HEPA bags in it.

That's very interesting you have a XL7. I know they were sold over in Europe but never have I seen one here until now. Also it's interesting you have a XL Legend that's in the same black color as the XL21/XL7. I've read they were only sold in red and blue unless the blue ones are mislead as black or there are also in fact blue ones and I haven't seen one yet, I've already seen the red ones. But I do have a XL Platinum that's blue, I think the blue ones were more popular than the red ones.

Anyways regarding the XL 9100, awesome find! They're one of my favorite Orecks. I like the ones that has the switch on the base more than on the handle, it's just more simpler and the pistol grip handle feels better on my hands.

Years ago bought an Oreck vacuum from a yard sale Bag was packed.Some of its ingredients were FIRED .22 shells.Tey had the firing pin markes on them.Fan was broken-motor bad.Ended up throwing it out.Looked good at the sAle but was badly beat up inside.

That sounds a little bit like my latest project.
I was originally just cleaning it up for someone else. But, when they heard what a mess it was inside, (no ammo though) they said they didn't even want it back. I could keep it, or toss it, at my discretion.
Because I'm me, I'm going to try to fix it up. But, it may not work out.
So far, I've replaced the Helping Hand, the cord, and I have a fan housing coming.
It still needs a new felt seal, and maybe a brushroll.
After all that, even though it runs, I might want to replace the motor, and there's still a matter of the headlights not working. I still haven't determined what's going on with that.
I know. It's not worth it. But, for whatever reason, it's worth it to me.
This is way more effort than I've ever put into one of these before. Generally, all I do is a good cleaning.
So, if nothing else, this will serve as a learning experience.
Worst case scenario; if I can't figure it out, I'll put it all in a box, bring it to the only vacuum shop in the area, and pay him to put it back together.
