New Shark rocket duo clean corded.

My partner bought a small office suite for his company he started a while ago and is growing rapidly and wanted a suggestion for a vac to equip the building with. There is a lot of tile floors and low pile office carpet.

I suggested the current Shark rocket duo clean corded model from Costco. It was on sale $40 off and it arrived and he unpacked it and cleaned with it today. I’m out of town so haven’t seen it in person but when he called today I received a very positive report about how much he loves this vacuum. He said it works great and asked why we do t have one at home. I told him we have a slightly older version at home and I also have my Electrolux canister which I like. He wanted to know why we have so many other vacuums at the house and I could tell he is hinting at wanting me to delete them all for another one of these rockets he has fallen in love with. Since I do most all the vacuuming…I told him I have a few I’ll delete but I do like my Electrolux canisters as well. He doesn’t really vacuum much so I don’t think he realizes we have a similar Shark rocket as I keep the motor unit on the shelf in the closet and the wand with the floor brush on it and rarely use the power nozzle since we have hard floors and virtually no carpe so he hasn’t ever seen me use it with the power nozzle to realize it is very much like the duo clean model I suggested he get for the office suite. I haven’t tried a duo clean model myself yet but it promises no hair wrap and a washable bust bin. I’d be curious as to how that dual brush roll feels and I’ll have to give it a whirl if I go by the office when I get back in town. It came with a combination dusting brush/crevice tool which I like on mine and also an upholstery nozzle and it also includes an attachment clip to keep the tools on board attached to the wand when not in use. He usually reads the instructions on new products he buys so hopefully he read all about how to use it, store it freestanding upright, and that it can also be used without the wand as a hand vac. I’m curious as to how the new cylinder shape feels as opposed to the original and delux original models feel which I’ve experienced.

We like the Shark 5 year warranty and the Costco lifetime return warranty so if it fails in the future, even if the warranty is out…Costco will give us a full refund. From my experience so far…the rockets do seem to run quite well. Users need to remember to wash the filters once in a while to insure suction is good and reduce stress on the motor from clogged filters but they don’t clog up too fast unless vacuuming unusually dirty rugs such as a an entry thick carpet piece in a dirty garage that hasn’t been cleaned in many months.

Well…

I had thought about that but the building is small…4 low pile carpeted offices about the size of bedrooms and tile in a kitchen and a big great room and a foyer area. Also there will likely be a weekly housekeeper who will be required to bring his/her own vacuum and so this is just in case the people who work in the office need to clean up something they spilled..we wanted it to be simple, convertible…and doesn’t need bags..though I know it’s likely we will have to do a filter cleaning periodically. For the tile we also bought a commercial dust mop…one of those big rectangular ones we’ve all seen janitors use and likely if someone has to clean the floors they would likely go for that since it’s big and will cover the gray room much more quickly.

If the Shark craps out…it will go back to Costco for a refund as they have a refund policy.

There's crazier choices of vacuums you could pick for industrial use. I got a Dyson DC-something series (the big uprights with the multiple clutches and automatic leveling head) and it was used by a RV vinyl awning manufacturer to clean their lobby floor, breakroom, entryway, etc with. All that fine dust, let's just say it didn't last long in that environment. I bought it, but it needed a new circuit board for the electrics in it. The little chip must have overheated and fried. The plastic and rubber dust got absolutely everywhere in it in places you wouldn't believe. Also the entire soleplate was ground down to just the thickness of tissue paper from being run over concrete.

I'd read the warranty carefully again with the Shark. They will not cover it if it was used commercially. Also when Shark warranty a vacuum, they don't repair it at all. They just ship an entirely new one out once they say you are clear to receive a replacement. This can cause a delay in logistics which of course is not good when it involves business purposes.

If using a Shark Rocket in a commercial setting, I'd set aside some money to have on hand to replace it. I have the newer purple Rocket as well as the early model that has that weird swappable brushroll for carpet and hard floors that you carry in a container, and I couldn't imagine them holding up long term in a home environment more or less in a office with paperclips, toner dust, tacks, rubber bands, etc. Just a lot of little hazards hiding around that could cripple it. All my Shark vacs have the weird issue I never could work out where they work great for about 3 months then they fall off a cliff and stop picking up as good as they used to. I have no idea why. All the filters are spotless and I even changed filters and it still persists. I suspect maybe there is a purge valve that sticks open or falls off I have no idea.

I've Always Said If You Have To Have

one of something, you need two.

Since vacuums are so cheap, I'd get two (but they don't have to be exactly the same).

Well

The space is small enough and again, it shouldn’t be something that’s used for regular cleaning as a crew should have their own supplies and equipment and if it ends up that is what happens and it craps out soon, then I’ll suggest a getting an Aerus or Prolux upright (nearly identical to the Aerus. I’ve seen those in commercial spaces and they seem to be ok. For now we will see how it goes with this one.
