Has anyone had experience with the new Royal plastic canisters. I was just looking around ebay and took a look at one. It was a model 3050 full size canister. It was fairly attractive with variable speed control, bag check indicator, concealed tool storage, and hepa filtration. The PN also looks really cool.

I had given up on Royal after they moved away from metal products, but this looks fairly sold. I'd just like to see a comparison against something like a Miele, Kenmore, Eureka or other canister of this style.

Yes!!

My boyfriends mom had the same canister. Got it at a local vac shop, the suction was great. Infact I used to have to turn it down cuz it would suck fast to the floor/carpet. but that was about the only good thing about it. The hose got kinked a lot cuz its that hard plastic that is normally on cheeper vacs, also the hose shorted out after 3 weeks. The attachments are on the small size. The power nozzle worked ok, the brushroll is metal but because of were they placed the head light its ockward to fit it under furniture. And for the size of the canister the bags are rather on the small size. Not as big as a Kenmore canister vac bag. The vacuum lasted about 6 months and then just died. no reason just would not turn on. didnt feel like dealin with it so it got thrown away. Hope that helps!!

Royal RY3050.

The vacuum itself is quite nice... It is very decent for a cheap canister, and its two-stage Ametek Shanghai motor provides a lot of suction. However, this machine is the plagued with hose issues.

We ordered a whole crate of these machines about two years ago. Since then, most of them have come back to us with the same problem... The PH becomes intermittent as the cable (running through the centre of the hose) breaks where it exits the hose near the machine end. After countless warranty claims and the same issues repeating, we now modify the hose with a Plastiflex hose...

If TTI would address the issue with the hose, they could have a real winner in the sub $200 canister market...

Its really too bad it has a design flaw like the hose, especially when it seems it could be see easy to fix. It looks like a machine with real potential, but I guess they have no real replacement for the classic Power Tank.

A former vacuum dealer in this area USED to carry those TTI Royal canisters-but only breifly-the returns and generally poor design. They are NOT a suitable replacement for the metal Royal "Pony" torpedo canister vacuums. The tools for the newer Royal machines are just to dinky for home cleaning-they may be good for detailing your car , Hi-fi equipment , computer equipment. The dealer here called those machines-the 18Lb turkey vacuum-the body of the canister resembled-and handled like a frozen turkey.I would suggest looking for an older Royal metal canister vac-see the thread one those machines.#6577 beleive it was. These plastic Asian built machines are not in the same class as the metal Royal tanks or Meiles.

Plastic Royal

Isnt it a shame for the dirt devil mentality to take over a wonderful old company like royal who prided there selves on American made quality,I have several old Royals and they all are built like tanks, now with airway gone we really dont have any old time metal vacs left.

the vac shop i work at was given one as a freebee....to try out. lasted all of 10 days as a clean up vac for our full service clean outs....hose had probs out of the box. and they dont want it back....dont waste your money.
