My cousin runs an auction house and is on the lookout for vintage appliances for me. This week he called with news of finding a nice white refrigerator that he thinks I would like. This is what I came back with... an early 1960's mid-level Frigidaire in beautiful condition. Does anyone know where to find the model plate?
I also came back with a Magnavox hi-fi console from the same period. More on that tomorrow...

John...

I think its a 62, Jean and Henry had a very similar one when I was a kid, theirs was coppertone and left hand door, on the back top left should be stamped a code in ink...

I can tell you one thing, it is H E A V Y! It has a very thick porcelain surface with one Small Chip at the bottom of the door.
I'm not sure if it's an Imperial, this one seems to be "better" on good-better-best scale.

This is a 1964 model according to a Google search. The Frigidaires looked almost identical through early - mid 60's.

That's a super cute fridge, John! Congratulations! I just love the styling of 60s appliances...We have a turquoise bottom freezer, also from 1964, pictured below... We absolutely love it! Yours is a frost proof (FP) deluxe (D) 14 cubic foot (14) top freezer (T). Not sure what the P at the beginning or the S stand for.

If you make a post about this on automaticwasher.org, in the Super forum, there are a bunch of Frigidaire fans over there that could probably tell you more.

The Tech-Talk is posted for sale on automatice.org, a good thing to have handy in case something comes up: http://www.automatice.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi?showdoc~1059~Frigidaire~RF

These early frost proof models are not cheap to run, but they're oh so fabulous... And very well made!

Thanks for all the nice comments! Fred, I hear the compressor running frequently, so I figured it would be an energy hog. But who cares? It looks so much better than our modern appliances and it is COLD inside! I'll check out automaticwasher.org later.
I should take a picture of the 1967 Montgomery Ward chest freezer next to it. Mom and dad bought it when they moved into their first home.

Hi John...

I thought the one they had was a 62, but i talked to them and they said they re modeled the kitchen the summer I was born, so that would make it a 65, it was frost proof, and had those wonderful ice ejector ice trays, you just flipped them upside down on the container and pulled the lever..presto!..before the Frigidaire they had a Advanced Design Philco they got in 47 when they were married!

Can't wait to see your new Magnavox!

I love that fridge! Our parents bought a brand new Frigidaire before we moved from Lynchburg, VA, in November '61. It was delivered here brand new in the crate. The paint was getting thin on it, and I guess Mom got tired of defrosting it, so they bought a new Kenmore about 1982. The Frigidaire opened opposite of yours, and was the same cabinet, just either the cheapest or next to the cheapest thing for 1962. She had the gaskets on the refrigerator section replaced twice, so that may have been why she gave up too. She gave it to a friend of mine, and I think it died in a house fire where he was living at the time.
