Recently there have been a couple of eBay deals gone wrong threads on Vacuumland between members. Thankfully, the second one was not as out of control and explosive as the first one. While I’m not comfortable with having those kinds of threads I will allow them to be displayed for a period of 5 days and then I will take them down. Five days is long enough for the majority of the membership to see them and make up their own minds about the situation. Long term I feel these threads are a determent to Vacuumland overall and I don’t want them on the site permanently. With that said I’m making a few statements about this new official policy:
#1 I do realize that not everyone will agree with this new policy. However the decision has now been made and this policy will stand. Under no circumstances will it change. I am not interested in discussing this via this thread or email, so if you attempt to email me about this policy it will not be read or answered.
#2 When these threads are posted under no circumstances am I personally interested on hearing one side or the other’s side of the story via personal email or phone call. I am not Judge Judy, I was not involved in the transaction nor do I have any desire to be and will not pay attention to any of it, it will be immediately deleted.
#3 If the thread deteriorates into something really bad I will go ahead and remove it before the five day period is up which is completely up to my discretion.
#4 Under no circumstances will I personally get involved in anyway nor will I go chasing after the target of the thread, letting them know to hurry up and defend themselves before it’s taken down. I want no part of any of this, except for breaking the glass and pulling the delete lever on the red “thread on fire” alarm box once the time limit is hit.
#5 If you chose to post and get involved in any of these threads you do so at your own risk.
#6 Don’t waste your time sending me utterly ridiculous emails threatening a law suit against the site for “slander” and “libel” as happened a bit with that first Kirby thread. Websites and website operators are 100% immune to law suits due to postings of their users here in the United States. If you don’t believe me you can read this. Sites like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook would never have survived otherwise.
#7 I also realize that some of these threads break the official rules on personal attacks on other members. However these are business deals gone bad which is a completely different context than a discussion of which vacuum cleaner works best, which must be taken into consideration in making these decisions.
Thank you for listening, now we can get back to our regularly scheduled program.[this post was last edited: 4/7/2016-14:57]
