New Oreck Cordless

Yeah, would be nice if the charge time could be much quicker. That Kobalt push mower I have, which takes a hefty lithium ion battery can fully charge from zero in 30 minutes. Wish these vacuums could do that!

I’m so glad I waited to order this Oreck Cordless. Even though I still really want it.. I will wait until I can stop by the Oreck store and give it a try. Especially since the hand held mini and floor brushroll are AIR driven and not electric motor driven.

They could surprise me and if so I’ll buy one on the spot. BUT if there is the least bit of shrill sound or stall out of either brushroll when it’s operating.. No way, I won’t be buying this either.

It’s a shame too as Oreck and TTI might have had a real contender for the V10, but this is no where near as advanced with Air powered tools, but still priced almost the same as the V10! Bummer

I’ll let you guys know and hopefully too soon, we will see a video on YouTube and can listen and see the performance of the brushrolls.

The best part of my Dyson V8 is the powerful brushrolls, both standard and fluffy. I will take slightly reduced run time for more power.

One last thing, my call to Oreck today did confirm one GOOD thing about the Oreck Pod. The Runtime of 40 minutes is solid regardless of what tools are used and it will never will be less than 40 minutes. That and a shorter 2 1/2 hour charge time had me ready to buy. Also, the entire Pod thing had me sold.. but now I’ll be waiting... who knows.

I really don't like the new logo they unveiled with it, but the product looks interesting overall. I'm happy that Oreck has stuck with their strong suit, bags, and brought a bagged machine to this market segment. The benefits of bags are a huge part of their overall sales pitch (along with weight) so I'm glad they didn't repeat something like the Touch (bagless) from the last days before the TTI buyout.

Apparently it's not an air driven floorhead that's just the name they've given it. 🙄

I am now interested again 😁

The Pods are $3 each. Not sure how big they are but that could be costly over a period of time.

So I went to see the Oreck pod in person today as my local store just got them in. Overall, its a nice vacuum. It's very lightweight, coming in at under 6 lbs. The floor nozzle and smaller turbo brush are indeed electric powered, as evidenced by the electrical pins on each. When I demoed the pod, it picked up everything the rep put down on the carpet, including sand and some type of synthetic fur to resemble cat hair. It was easy to push on low pile carpet and only slightly more challenging on deeper pile carpet, but that could have been because the small carpet square moved around on the floor. I dont know how it would perform on shag carpet though, but I don't think I would attempt using and rotating brush roll on shag. The vacuum. Also has a high and low setting. I wouldn't say its overly loud on high, but its not exactly hushed quiet either; somewhere in the middle. It revs up so to speak when you change from low to high. It also has a nice battery indicator and changes from a green light to red when it needs to be docked and charged.

I don't like that the floor nozzle rotating brush cannot be turned off, but that's no different than any other Oreck cleaner. It cleaned up debris on hard floors very well. The smaller turbo brush was very nice and didn't bog down a bit on the carpeted stairs I tried it out on. Also, the PODs themselves are very clever and easy to change out. Once full, they are supposed to seal shut and you can then turn the holder upside down and it easily slides out into the trash.

I will say that I would have bought it right then, but the rep was unwilling to throw in the wall mount tool caddy for free. They claimed it was $59.99, which seems quite high. It wasn't in stock but they could order it. Most vacuum dealers are used to wheeling and dealing on prices, or so I thought, but after a call to her manager, they still would not allow the tool caddy for free. I distinctly heard the lady on the other end of the phonecsay no. Its a shame they would let a customer walk over the $60 caddy when they could have sold me a $500 vacuum, but perhaps I was asking for too much? I didn't think I was, but oh well. Maybe I'll consider the vacuum at a later date.

@luxkid1980

Wow,

I agree with you Jason.. if they can’t even offer the $60 dollar tool caddy for say $20 bucks with purchase of the $500 vacuum or honestly.. you were NOT asking too much to get one free, I would walk away too.

I am trying to figure out if I want the Dyson V10 or the Oreck Pod, but honestly if you don’t even get the tool caddy and it’s still $500, and like Mark said the Pods are about $3 bucks each. I might wait too and see what happens.

Typically Oreck, when I call the main company number 800-989-3535 and talk to the awesome ladies that answer the phones, I get some sort of a discount as a Loyal Oreck Owner of Seven Oreck Vacuums.. I typically get at least free shipping. So maybe I will try and order mine when they are available to order from Oreck direct, and see if they will work with me and get a free tool caddy.

Thanks for the information though, I am so glad to hear about the powered brushrolls as we were all confused by the “air” in the name and I thought.. crap it’s air driven, which I hate. LOL

Also, thank you for sharing how it operated and your thoughts on it’s performance and loudness. Take care and I agree.. you were right to wait and did Not ask for too much in my opinion.

Thanks

Thanks Patrick! Yeah, I hate not having a place to store the tools, so the vacuum really should come with the caddy, especially at that price point! Perhaps I'll take your advice and call Oreck directly to see if they can offer a better deal. I will say the pods do look like they will hold a lot of dirt, so the price isnt too too bad, but they aren't exactly dirt cheap like an electrolux c-style bag either.

I see they have made a few updates to their website as well. It used to say the POD cleaner had a 40 minute run time, but they have now updated the specifications section to say 35+ minutes. I thought that was interesting.

Just tried it

Just dropped off my orbiter and my platinum and got to try out the new pod machine. It’s not worth it at all, I really wanted to like it so much too. The dirt capacity is 24 ounces, so the bag will fill up quick. It’s much louder than the dysons currently on the market and the suction is really kinda pathetic compared to a dyson. You must manually plug the cord in when you dock it so not really grab and go convenience of a dyson. He demonstrated the oreck odor carpet crystals on a royal branded entry rug and it struggled to pick it up as did the riccar cordless supralite which really shocked me. The riccar just scattered the powder across the rug, I just gave up after six passes.

So yeah definitely bummed that the new pod and my first use of a riccar cordless let me down. The brush on the oreck seems like it would do a good job since it has many rows of brushes, but they don’t stick out far enough to adequately groom like my dc59 Motorhead does, which is surprising since my dysons don’t stick out far either aside from the carbon fiber brushes.

Hi guys,

Colby, I’m actually wondering if the Riccar SupraLite Cordless you were using had a clog or full bag or the pores of the bag were clogged from fine dust?? If not, I really think there must have been something wrong with it as my Riccar performs so well I’ve recommended it to friends and family.

My Riccar vibrates and grooms the carpeting so well the dirt and particles several inches in front of the brushroll head vibrate all over before they are sucked up in one pass. I did my own Roger Lang type inspired “Bag of Filth” demo with mine and it cleaned up all the Rice, Flour, Dry Oats and Dog hair in one pass, easily gulping up everything in it’s path. Unfortunately I don’t have the professional equipment to film it so my video was pretty bad so I deleted it. But if I get a chance, I will try again and hopefully can post mine soon to show how well the Riccar SupraLite picks up everything from fine to largest particles, it groomed so well after one pass the carpet was totally clean.

I have decided I will wait to see if Oreck indeed sends me a free Pod Cordless to demo, if not.. I probably will just buy a Dyson V10. I have heard a few other people say the Oreck suction was not as strong as it could be and performed somewhat lackluster. Who knows until you have one home and try it though.. I didn’t think I would like certain vacuums if I went by the reviews only, but then tried them like Colby at a store of just bought it and found they worked fine for me.

Patrick

When I pick up my machines from their annual tuneup, I’ll give the riccar another try. I just returned my v10 on the 27th, like my dc59 better, the v10 is quiet but so is the v8 so I think that’s the model I’m going to next. The 10 just misses so many marks for me.

I have one, in black. “Allergen level” is a term is have heard used to refer to it’s actual filtration. It filters fine for its intended purpose - quick pickups between regular cleanings.

While there are some (cordless stick vacs) that claim to have hepa, I would be interested to see someone test emissions as there seems to be some (potential) controversy over the claims. Perhaps true hepa requires a little more suction/airflow/power than most of these battery units achieve overall in order to really clean. I may google that later.

That said, the thing is amazing! It cleans almost anything, and runs longer than I care to. Brushes are motorized (both floor and upholstery) as it is a direct suction unit requiring agitation on surfaces. It is lightweight and easy to hold. Love it for the car. It seems most of the time I grab it for something quick and just keep going, looking for more.

PS ~ if the pod seems to fill to quickly (pet hair, fuzz, etc...) just shake it a little and you’ll likely be able to keep going. It monitors capacity and airflow and either could trigger alert.

Thanks for the repsonse, Relhall! I know with a quick and easy vac like the Pod, I’d be using it far more than my full sized Aerus machines. I don’t allow shoes worn beyond just inside the door, don’t have pets, and am generally good for keeping a (slightly ocd) clean home. So if the thing won’t be spewing dust/etc back out causing me to sneeze and need to dust afterward, then it sounds like it may meet what I want it for.

So I recently picked up the Oreck POD at a discount. I've had it for a couple weeks now and I really like it. Mine came with the tool rack that they wouldn't throw in for me at the store last time I went. All mounting hardware including screws and plastic wall anchors were included, as well as instructions for how to mount the charging station and the tool rack. Both were a snap to install and it feels very solid while mounted. The charging station for the Oreck is really cool and a circular ring on the station glows a soft white light that pulses while it is charging. The light goes out when charging is complete.

The vacuum took the full 2.5 hours for the initial charge and then I ran it through its paces. One POD was already installed in the machine and 4 additional PODS were included. The PODS themselves do not seem very large, but apparently the dirt packs down in them as they fill up. I haven't vacuumed enough yet for them to really fill.

Overall, the vacuum feels nice in the hands, most of the weight being up towards your hands where the motor and POD are located. It's a snap to maneuver around as the floor nozzle swivels easily. When I first test the vacuum out in the store, the sales rep told me that the extension pole and floor nozzle were one unit, which is not correct. The extension pole does disconnect and allows the user to attach the other attachments for reaching ceiling corners, door jambs, etc.

When first turning on the POD, the machine sort of revs up to speed 1 or 2, depending on which you select, but it is not annoyingly loud. I use the high speed (2) for the wall to wall carpet and speed 1 for hard floors. Only one rug I have gave me a bit of a problem because the rug itself is a small area rug with almost non-existent pile (very very short) and the POD seemed to clamp down to it due to the short pile and the vacuum turned off and the POD light was blinking. The machine thought the POD was full due to a big loss of suction against this rug, as it continually monitors how full the POD is. If I vacuum on high speed for this rug, the suction is greater and the issue does not seem to happen. Other than that, it cleans well for a stick-type cordless vacuum; probably not as a deep carpet cleaner, but it does well enough for in-between cleanings and is very convenient to grab when in a hurry versus pulling out a corded vacuum. It vacuumed up everything easily on the floor, including cat food, litter, normal household dirt and hair, and I also used it to vacuum up cat hair on the bed. I like it!

I bought a POD for Shaylee because she wanted something quick around the house other than her Oreck buster B (can you imagine using only a little Buster B!!!)
Anyhow she really likes it. I like it too. It didn't WOW me like I had hoped it would but it is a good vacuum. I love that it's so light and versatile that I can go from floor to ceiling fan in a few seconds. If I had one request for it it would be this. I wish it had a floor tool like a canister would have because sometimes I don't want to run the brush roll when doing the hard floor.

@compactc9guy

I think it looks much better than the Dyson offerings and other comparable stick type vacuums. Like most stick type vacuums, I do not think they are yet to the point of deep cleaning capabilities of a corded machine on carpets. They might be in the near future though. That's why I am not yet getting rid of my electrolux canister or corded Oreck uprights.

However, it is much more convenient to grab for a quick in-between cleaning than my Epic 6500SR or the Oreck upright corded machines. It's actually very nice not having to contend with the cord everytime you want to do a quick cleaning. I can do my whole house, including above floor cleaning on a single charge with the POD. I haven't yet run the battery dead (granted my house is less than 1500 sqft).

No "bare floor" tool with this one, and you likely wouldn't want one after you tried one on it.

Due to it's overall design, those tools are not effective. Rather, this one has two different brushes on the brushroller itself; longer ones for bare floor (these are softer if I recall correctly) and shorter ones which engage on carpet.

For those with a POD - it's not hard to rig one up, just don't commit ~

Haven't seen this vacuum yet in Greenville-would like to try it.The vac shop I go to is an Oreck dealer-surprised he hasn't gotten one of these POD vacuums.Makes me think of the "Filters" the 3M vacuums use.

Ive been using the POD every other day or so for a while now and I noticed a small bit of hair and lint that had accumulated slightly around one end of the brushroll on the floor head, so I decided to inspect it further. I remember someone on the forum posting an issue regarding lint accumulation in one of the dyson vacuums a while back, but can’t remember which one.

The bottom plate is secured by 7 screws and once removed, the brushroll can be easily removed. I then was able to easily remove the debris. The brushroll is driven by a small toothed belt with # DP 27 A; reminds me of the ones used on the older Electrolux power nozzles. I imagine that spare parts will eventually be available for the POD vacuum (should it need service in the future) as it looks like accessories such as the floor nozzle are serviceable. Overall, the brush seems well made and easy to replace. I’ve attached pics if anyone is interested.

I did get one of these but I’m not impressed. I think maybe I expected too much. But it doesn’t seem strong to me, even on level 2. I’m sending mine back and will get a corded stick vac instead.
