New old Sunbeams

I got in the mail today a Sunbeam 1969 Deluxe Mixmaster in tan/sandlewood color. This one is very rare. After Sunbeam stopped production of pastels, this one was added with avocado and gold. It must not have sold well,because I have never seen one. IT has a copper front motor cover instead of chrome. IT is perfect shape and runs like new. I can't wait to bake something this weekend. I paid 34.00 for it.

Last week I bought a Sunbeam Le Chef food processor at Goodwill for7.00. It is also complete in mint condition.
Sunbeam used to be the top of the line brand of kitchen appliances. I will always hold them close to my heart because that was my mom's favorite brand along with GE.In 1973 I bought her a new MM100 gold mixer at the store I was working. She was thrilled as her old model 10 was still going but looked rough. She had just gotten new gold appliances and now she had the mixer to match.

I have all Kitchen Aid now,which work well,but I just love using the old ones. Such good memories..................

My Mom used to have a Sunbeam LeChef food processor-that thing was POWERFUL!!!!!More so than the Cuisnarts!Its motor could trip the breaker if you were mixing a heavy load in the unit!Would like to have one-keep looking.Wished I could have gotten my Moms have no idea where it is.Loved using it-would make applesauce with it-and mix cookie dough in it-that is when I tripped the breaker!and I like making strawberry applesauce in it.

Sunbeam Mixmasters Having Copper Color Fronts

I remember reading a post by Kelly that it was an anniversary edition for the Mixmaster? 40th maybe? He had a sandelwood model with clear glass bowls in some of his kitchen pictures. Sunbeam made a big deal about a 75th Anniversary edition even offering reproductions of the original instruction/recipe booklets with the mixer. What is strange is the stand and the motor changed while the box remained the same the early models had the juicer port and tilt handle beater ejection and the stand with bowl shift lever. The latter models had the two position turn table an wider mixer motor mount, the motor lost the juicer port and replace with an beater ejector button.

LeChef Food Processor

Was Sunbeams response to the original Cuisinart Food processor. Shirley Jones was their paid spokesperson at that time. Le Chef used an induction motor like the Cuisinart models. The work bowl was taller, having a higher dry capacity when slicing or shredding. The chopping blade nearly touched the interlocking cover, with a food pusher that had graduated markings for measuring. early models had a plastic mixing blade too. Early models had two separate blades and later models had one plastic holder with metal shredding and slicing inserts. There was a french fry cutting blade available at extra cost. Sunbeam had order forms for accessories packed with the instruction/recipe booklets. Sunbeam had certified repair centers scattered all over the country at the this time and I visited both the New Orleans and Houston outlets. Impressive to see so many of their appliances for sale in one location. They sold reconditioned appliances at reduced prices (unboxed specials!) called refurbished models today. Attachments and accessories were on display. Seeing 10 variations of the mixmaster on a shelf is like seeing all the KitchenAid colors on QVC the featured for a special sale.

Love my Sunbeams

I've got two chrome Mixmasters from the '70s. One is chrome with a chrome stand and the other is a Vista with a built-in work light and a brown stand. Paid a whopping $5.75 for it in mint condition at a thrift shop. The "juicer port" as some call it was actually a power takeoff port for a variety of accessories, of which the juicer was but one. I've got a food processor attachment for mine that does the slicing and shredding functions but doesn't chop. It's actually more powerful for those two functions than my Hamilton Beach food processor.

I got the first Mixmaster and the food processor attachment after my Sunbeam Turbocone food processor got broken. It was a great design with a conical bottom in the container that allowed the contents to circulate better than a conventional flat bottomed one. I never ended up with huge, un-chopped chunks stuck to the side of the container.

My aunt has the all chrome one.

It replaced an old 1940s one, so that my grandfather would enjoy lighter bowls than the glass ones. It's still perfect (hardly EVER gets used anymore). I have a 1950s one (from a convent, don't ask), as well as a brand new, retro hand mixer and a beautiful little chrome original hand mixer. I use my Kitchenaid stand mixer and sometimes the red 5-speed hand mixer. I've learned NOT to refer to it as the little "handjob". Made THAT mistake........................
I also have a Sunbeam Oscar, Oscar Jr, as well as the Cuisinart. Suffice it to say, it is a VERY well-equipped kitchen. You have no idea what's in there. Sometimes I even forget what's in there. Gotta love those old Sunbeams.

Sunbeams

I used my tan mixmaster today to mix a cake,works perfect, and so much easier to work with then my Kitchen Aid Artisan,in purple,no less.
After the cake was done I made 7 minute icing from the book that came with my tan mixer. It is the same recipe my mom made a million times. I used my harvest gold burst of power 12 speed hand mixer which I also bought on Ebay. Turned out great! Bringing cupcakes to work tom.since it is my 11th year at my employer.That hand mixer has a motor like a stand mixer and was new in the box when I got it. I also bought her sister, an avocado 5 speed burst of power model. These hand mixers seem to last forever.
