New Miele

Hey everyone I just wanted to say I decided to treat myself and I bought myself a C3 Brilliant yesterday. Such a beautiful vacuum and my third new Miele. You can say it’s in honor of their 125th anniversary and the 10 year anniversary of having my S5. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet but I’m looking forward to it when I do. Not the best photos I’ll take better ones later but these were just initial pics after it came out of the box.

Personally, I think they should've kept the paint job from the UniQ S8 onto the Brilliant. But nonetheless, I'd hang onto that as a collector's piece because I think next year Miele will update all of their canisters and replace the Brilliant with a new model from the new M1 line so that may be one of the last Brilliant models you've got out of the box.

Congratulations! The C3 is an excellent canister cleaner. Just remember that whenever you open the bag chamber, reseat the bag collar into the dock before closing the lid….the collar can easily slide out of alignment whenever you open the lid which can cause major dirt leakage into the bag chamber when you use the vacuum later.

Panasonicvac- yes the deep mahogany metallic of the S8 UniQ was nice and I liked that the tool area was lined with the matching velvet that’s on the bumper but any good examples or new UniQ’s are long gone and people ask a lot of money for used ones and I’d rather spend it on a new one. I actually really like the bronze pearl matte finish it looks really nice. I was considering between the C3 Brilliant and the Homecare+. While the homecare has a 5 year warranty instead of 3 and is beautiful in its mango red color as well as it comes with some extra attachments like the really nice big universal dusting brush from Miele, I chose the brilliant because I love the little extra neat gimmicks like the velvet bumper, the led lights on the parking slots and the underbody, and the chrome trim where the rest of the lineup has silvery plastic around the hose inlet, exhaust vent, and operating pedals in the rear. It did come with the parquet twister XL instead of the regular sized one and came with the newer iteration of the AllTeQ floor tool (which I wasn’t expecting to see the newer one in there).
Eurekaprince- thank you! Yeah anytime I open a S8/C3 I always reseat the bag. It seems like a convenient feature and I see where Miele was going having it pop the bag out for you but if you open it up like a normal user would to check the status of the bag periodically it’s not being taken out right then then most people don’t know to push it back in and it’s just a mess. Good thought process on Miele’s part but not practical in use.

Take good care of that matte finish on the body….

Sadly, it’s the only thing about these machines that’s vulnerable. My Capricorn is 18 years old and it looks like it’s been through a war zone because the silver matte paint has peeled off over the years. My housekeeper was a bit rough with the machine, but it functions beautifully. I’m impressed that the area of the body where the HEPA filter is attached is dust free, which tells me that the high filtration bags and HEPA filter work very well.

Yeah I’m concerned about the matte finish especially if it gets scratched I won’t be able to polish it out. I’m going to use it only on occasion though I just used it for the first time just now and it is wonderful I love it as much as the rest of my Miele’s. I had a silver matte finished Capricorn too previously but the finish was in great shape. I’m so happy with this machine. I’m storing it in its plastic wrap in the closet so it stays protected. It slips over nicely like a sleeve.

If only…

The only thing keeping me from a new Miele is the lack of a motorized mini brush. Wessel Werk already makes a stock model so it wouldn’t be too hard to do.

Oh gosh yes I wish they had one that would be awesome. They already have electronics going through the hose so why not capitalize on that.

Better photos~

I took some better photos of the machine today. I really love the auto setting for the suction it actually works and works better than on my S7. I think it doesn’t work at all on my S5 Aquarius but she’s a bit worn out. I don’t find that my S7 really adjusts the suction at all. The Brilliant does actually adapt the suction to my different floor types which I was surprised how well it worked in this unit over my S7.

I loved the Capricorn (the silver one of course), that was what really got me into Miele thanks to this former YouTuber.



I also loved the Calisto as well, I think this video is what got me first introduced to Miele but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first ever Miele I've seen.



And the last Miele from the favorites of these canisters would be the Aquarius. I remember Gerry tested that against a blue Dirt Devil D2 Cyclonic Reaction and I think that was the first video I've seen from his series on YouTube. Of course that channel has since been long gone.

Anyways, when I worked at a Miele dealer, that Brilliant was one of the models they had but it didn't sold well. It's a great machine no doubt, but customers were more interested in other models like the Marin, or my personal favorite the C1 Classic Homecare Powerline which I may get if the insurance company approves of it for the cabin that flooded this past winter however I'd rather have a SEBO instead.

I also agree that Miele should have a Wessel Werk HEB160, I don't see why not. That'd be another advantage over a SEBO.

Yeah I work at a Miele/Sebo/Simplicity/Riccar dealer and we sell significantly more Sebo’s than Miele’s because of the longer warranty and lower cost of ownership and lower price of the models overall. For example we sell the Miele C3 Brilliant for $1,789 and we sell the Sebo D4 Premium for $1,349. The D4 gives you a 10/10/7 warranty (we have a dealer code that ups the warranty from 7/5/5 to the 10/10/7). The Miele has an 3 year warranty. Also you get 8 bags for $35.99 that are 1.5 gallon capacity for the D4 and only 4 bags for the Miele for $21.99. The filter for the Miele is $59.95 and the filters for the D4 I want to say are about $39.99 (or something like that). The D4 also has a 40ft cord which is unheard of in a canister and a 50ft or so overall operating radius whereas the Miele has a 36ft operating radius and like a 24ft cord or something like that. As far as repairability Sebo has a full schematic with part numbers right in the manual and Miele we have to dig through the dealer network to find schematics and parts lists and the parts are significantly more expensive. While I see few Miele’s in for repair I almost never get Sebo’s in for repairs. The Sebo is the better economical choice for your average user. However for a collector like myself, the C3 Brilliant is perfect. I sell Miele’s to Miele people usually. A couple of weeks ago I sold a C3 Marin to a lady who actually came in for a C3 Brilliant but the only C3’s I had in at the moment was a Cat & Dog, a Homecare, and a Marin. I did show her the Sebo D4 as well but she preferred the Miele and as a Miele owner myself I told her I can’t blame you you can’t go wrong with either choice.
As far as what got me into Miele it was the Vacuum Direct video about the S5 Leo. When I first saw that vacuum I knew that was the ticket I wanted one of those S5’s.

I think some people might prefer the Miele C3 over the Sebo D4 because it is less bulky, has a headlight on the deluxe power nozzle, and has slightly better airflow at the hose end.

Yeah I never was a huge fan of the bulk of the D4. I also wish the ET-1 had a headlight. I really like the “comfort” one-touch cord retractor on the C3. The D4 doesn’t have the one-touch cord rewind only the E3. The E3 is a little more comparable to the C3. The Miele is just overall more elegant too which doesn’t do much for your average vacuum buyer but it does a lot for us collectors.

SEBO is almost in everyway better than Miele. I say almost because in terms of performance and filtration, that's where Miele draws the line. Honestly if the cabin still had carpets and if it was still going to be shag, I would've been more interested in a Miele instead because they'd do a better job. Yes the bags and filters are pricey for Miele but you pretty much get what you pay for because they're like the best of the best. Not saying SEBO is terrible but I've seen some dust leak out of the bags unlike Miele where I barely see any dust at all in the bag compartment not to mention they don't lose as much performance, and the HEPA filter on the Miele does do a better job than what SEBO can do. Thankfully you don't have to use HEPA filters on Miele, you can always just use the filter that comes with every package of Miele bags which I would've personally done on all of my Mieles. I also agree that I personally see Miele as more of a collector and SEBO as more of a consumer, another reason why I prefer SEBO. And I agree about the D4, I think those are more reserved for homes with bigger areas especially with the ET-2 powerhead they used to offer as an option. I recently told John Van Leuven who's the CEO of SEBO USA that they should extend the warranty on the powernozzles cause right now it's only 7/5/5 unless you buy a canister with the 10/10/7 warranty but it's not available on the ET-2 heads. You can equip the ET-2 on any canister or even on any Felix (apparently that also used to be an option according to John).

Wow that’s really cool to know! Yeah I have a Felix as well and I’m wondering if I get the 10/10/7 warranty on the nozzle. At one point it used to say power heads were excluded when you registered the warranty but I don’t think it said that when I registered my Felix. I do have the 10/10/7 warranty on it though. I will say I agree that the filtration on a Sebo is good but on a particle counter they won’t blow a 0 (though they will blow a lower number than what’s in the room). This is because they do not use pleated hepa filters like Miele does. I love my Felix and that’s actually my go-to vacuum for weekends and for daily quick cleaning I use my cordless Riccar Supralite. I do continue to use the hepa AirClean filters in all of my Miele’s. Since they get such low usage the filters last me several years. Both my S7 Swing and C3 Brilliant have hepa filter change lights that should illuminate after about 50 working hours of use (I have never seen one come on though on any customer machines or my own so I’m not sure if it actually works) but I just check my hepas when they start getting grey I keep and eye out and when they turn black and you can’t really see light pass through them when you hold it up to a light then I change it. Took about 4 years of non regular use on my S5 Leo before it needed replacing. My S5 Aquarius also has the filter change light but I seriously doubt it works and I have the airclean filter in it from the box of bags actually so it doesn’t matter anyway and I don’t really use that machine ever.

I'm sure your Felix powerhead is covered with the extended warranty like their canisters. Just not if the powerheads were sold separately. But I'm not sure if the Miele filter lights actually work, at least I've never seen one happen before unless I completely forgot about it. Honestly, I'm more old school and that's one of the reasons why my favorite Miele at the dealer is the C1 Classic Homecare Powerline. WAY less circuitry, more simpler, and cleans just as well as the C3. My dealer at least I'm aware of never had problems with that machine just like SEBO. If I could have any Miele today, that's what I'd get. But I'd still buy a SEBO K3 Premium over it, I do like that those can have a optional HEPA pre motor filter unlike their other canisters and there's more color options to choose from (I like the red one the best as a collector and black as a consumer).

I agree, definitely a cool looking canister. My favorite ones from SEBO are their green colors. They had this spring green which kinda looks more yellow, hunter green, and of course the current mint green as their limited edition. Curtsey of Manchester Vacs.
