New Lux Demonstrated *Help me out Europeans*

Given that my last thread was an unmitigated disaster (sorry about that), let me try something else. Please no fighting. LOL


This gentleman from Richmond, Virginia is an Aerus salesman and he posts a lot of videos of his products. This is the bare-bones model of Lux in the U.S. However, as you can see, it comes with a full-size power nozzle with every machine. As Europeans are well aware Lux is, and always has been, a one-machine show. I personally think the Legacy should be discontinued. However, Aerus has been keeping older models around for difficult sales in case customers don't want to buy the top-end model. These vacuums are often described as "horrendously noisy" and "loud" by Americans on this board. Most of you are used to screamers just like us. If you want to hear a loud vacuum, try a Kirby (yikes!). Help me understand what's wrong with me. I don't hear a "loud" vacuum. And I've heard them all (well most). Surely you can understand why Lux defenders here question the sanity of people who think this is "deafening." Note I am NOT claiming it is the "quietest" on the market, just that claims they are loud are overblown. Thoughts?

Here's my opinion - so please don't cut me down for it.

One must remember that what people think on what terms "noisy" could be average to someone else. Whilst I'm all for written product reviews, not a lot of consumers are these days, because they can't be bothered to wade through material of handy info -they'd rather leave it up to the salesperson or Google the short answer.

I'd say that this vacuum is noisy and that's from the machine alone and not from the PN> I can understand completely that some buyers are put off given that the German brands can offer a substantially lower noise from their units. Things move on after all in the world of floorcare - not all vacuums these days are noisy.

But then consumers in the U.S who are complaining of the noise may also be adding the noise of the power nozzle PLUS the very fact that for all that the Aerus Classic looks like a beautiful machine and all, consumers might feel like they are losing out in terms of pricing over perhaps more expensive products, or likewise if the machines offer a lower noise value.

Does this model have a variable suction control or do you have to put up with that whine all of the time?

That Aerus model is however very similar to the one my relatives have in India, ASIA, under the Eureka-Forbes tag. It is a heavy beast in India, made partly of cast iron and plastic and I can't abide using it. It is very noisy and I can't hear conversation over it.

I can with my Miele or Sebo vacuums though!

I can add this much. I have owned a very similar Electrolux 2100 for over 10 years. It has seen a LOT if hard use.
No complaints from me on the service but to me it is very loud and the power nozzle is loud too. I think it may be because older Americans grew up with the XXX, E's and G's which were whisper quiet.
I had a Miele. It was quiet but I hated the short cord,short hose, baby attachments and the small wheels. It was always pulling side ways and it also smelled from the bags.
I have seen the new top of the line Lux and it was quiet in operation EXCEPT the power nozzle seemed loud and somewhat outdated.
Also bear in mind that the Lux Classic and Lux Legacy are the lower tier machines and are not cheap by any measure.

Next to my Rainbow, I am still a loyal Aerus user.

To me this machine is on the quiet side. I don't consider it to make an annoying or excessive level of noise, so I dot get why someone would be bothered by it. Its likely far more quiet than any of the average cheap vacuums on can buy.

Again it may come down to lots of variables that consumers are moaning about. Just respect them. I used to get het up with all the negative feedback when the Felix came to Walmart - the reviews on them were awful because quite simply it was obvious that a lot of owners didn't really see past the spec and controls.

Let the buyers be put off - more models for the collectors!

The 2100, hence now the Lux classic is noisier than say the Silverado, and the new Platinum for a couple of reasons.

1. They are plastic machines with less insulation material between the works and the outside.
2. The exhaust is on the top of the machine pointing upwards, whereas the Silverado and older machines ducted the exhaust through the top which had a muffling effect.

It may be nosier, but not a screamer. Not even as loud as some direct air machines. I will have to say that I have never owned anything as quiet as the New Guardian Platinum, I don't think I have anything that is too noisy, and as someone that trained in Audiology I am mindful of loud noises.

Yes, but even if you are trained in audiology, not many consumers are - and more importantly not all homes are the same in terms of sound proofing and general sound insulation.

So, you have a point?

I am stating I have an awareness of loud noises, and the harm they can do to the human hearing apparatus. The 2100 is not at harmful levels. I would guess if one lived in an amphitheater the noise would be amplified, but SPL,
Sound Pressure Levels are usually measured in controlled environments and if they are at dangerous levels, such as say a gas Weed trimmer; then a warning is issued.

But back to my comment, I am aware of loud noises, and do not judge the Lux line as excessive.

But is that in mind of the power nozzle being switched on as well? I mean, correct me if I am wrong, all those statements from consumers regarding the noise as "deafening" may well be adding the noise of the PN in as well. I would assume that not all owners use these vacuums all of the time with the power nozzle attached?

Of course it isn't just the noise of the machine coupled with the PN added - but also to bear in mind the noise of the floors that the PN's have to travel or clean up on.
