Hey guys I just bought a used but very lightly used Kenmore Progressive Red Pepper 116.31069110 and I love it. I got it from sears for $84. It is very nice. It's my early Birthday present. I'm happy I got it

Hey there James! Congratulations on getting this Kenmore. Not sure if Consumer Reports tested an identical model to this, but a very similar model in red did very, very well in their tests - with very good cleaning results in all categories: carpeting, bare floor and "air flow in the hose for tool use."

It's all Panasonic.
This looks like a nice vacuum. I like how it uses the hose design like the other Progressives, it has a good reach, and that clip at the bottom will keep the vacuum from falling over when you use it. The Progressives I used with this hose also did not have the issue with the hose retracting as soon as you touched the attachment to a surface.

seems to make sure their vacuums are designed really well. Any Kenmore I've used (at least a canister) I always loved using it and it cleaned well. It's been forever since I've had a bagged upright. The last one I had I believe was a Eureka Boss and the thing I hated most about it was bag changing, because of the way the bag pushes in, it's hard to make sure you have it in correctly (pushed all the way back) without ripping it. But since the cloth bags are now used more and more, I doubt that's an issue. Does this bag changing have an actual collar that it slides into place, or do you just push the bag back? Just curious. Also, does the bag chamber area stay clean?

I have the older Yellow version of this and I overall really like it. I perfer the Panasonic MC-UG471 better because they are lighter.

A lot of "bag first" uprights unfortunately ask you to install the bag "blindly" onto an inlet neck at the back of the bag chamber. This design has been around since the old Hoover Dial-a-Matic from the 1960's. Even the later successful WindTunnel series of uprights, including the current basic Hoover Tempo upright, require the user to push a cardboard collar onto a plastic inlet pipe behind the bag - hidden from clear view by the bag itself. You find yourself trying to fold the bag material in such a way so as to get a firm grip on the cardboard collar without ripping the bag as you press forward all around the plastic inlet pipe to make sure it is snug up against the back wall of the chamber.
But newer uprights have better designs that use a lever to lock the back collar in place. These are really convenient as there is no guessing as to whether the bag is seated correctly. The Eureka SmartVac has this feature, and so does the Bagged Hoover Platinum Upright. The Miele S7 uprights have a very easy slide-in bag collar design. And the new Hoover T-Series WindTunnels have an even better system: the bag is secured to the removable compartment door and installs itself when you put the door back in place! Very convenient bag change design!
Of course, Electrolux hard body uprights have featured an easy "drop-in" bag for decades, and the more modern Sebo Felix has a similar easy-to-change drop-in top fill bag.
Having said all this, I am not sure if the latest generation of Panasonic and Kenmore uprights offer a "smart" way of installing their bags.

You described it perfectly. I always DREADED changing a bag in an upright because of that. As you said, you really were doing it blindly, hoping that you got it in correctly.
Surely these Kenmore uprights have more modern bag changing.

It might be a lot easier to design these vacs so that the access to the bag compartment was on the side. I can understand the benefits of having the dirt enter the bag 5 or 6 inches from the top as this helps filter the air and maintains airflow. So if you don't want the collar on the very top, and you want to keep it a few inches down on the back, then they should design it so the door opens on the side where you can see what your doing near the inlet pipe.
