Great Machine, Awesome find !!
The only down side back in the day (mid-late 70'). Was
the bag. People using them as their daily driver, had
problems with dust leaks. Kirby, thought the rubber/plastic
coating on the out side would filter. Just made it leak
around the emptor. Replaced them with Gold bags like on
the 1CR Classic. That was in the 80's in my shop.

Love It

I have one just like it, and is my favorite. I bought him new in '75, his name is "Herby" by the way (Get it Herby the Kirby). Ok Love Bug was popular during that time. I believe mine was an earlier Omega, however, because I have the Gold bag,but it has the Omega insignia. I know it was new, as I was the one that took it out of the box when it was delivered.
We knew the distributor, my mom bought it because I was only 13, paid $125 for it.

I love the Kirby Classic series,,,there is just something about them that is just so cool, especially when they are brand new,,and/or all shined up, with every conceivable part!
The bend of the handle grip down to the sloping bell shaped head, the woodgrain handle, the brown belt lifter and bright headlight,,unmistakably Kirby.

A favorite cousin bought a new Classic Omega around 1974-75 and kept it in the corner of her kitchen,(back in the days of kitchen carpet),,whenever we visited, i always had to check it out. What an awsome piece of engineering those machine are,,,i remember the new shiny metal almost blinded you if you used the Kirby in the sunlight.
I remember the tone of the motor,,it reminded me of a jet engine,,,there is something about the sound of the original Classic series motor, with the original metal fan that just sounds like no other machine than a Kirby Classic.

We had a neighbor that had a Classic 1CR that used it to clean out their car, on their driveway once in awhile,,,if we had the windows open in the house, i could always tell, just by the sound of that motor that they had it out with the hose on, and were using it,,,that distinct sound echoed all over the neighborhood!

Congratulations James!!

That is one beautiful Omega!! And having it complete with all the boxes makes it even better! I have a Classic III with all the attachments (except the handi-butler) and the boxes, but the Vac came from one place and the attachments from another, and neither one was new when I got it.

I was just wondering?

NIB after sitting in the box for 34 years, what's the bearing grease like? Did you do anything before using it the first time? Are the sealed lifetime bearings good for sitting.

No the Kirby sounded Great. It ran very smooth.
I did turn the armture by hand before switching it on just to check. It was quiet smooth before switching it on but even smoother after it was swithched on...

But the bearings are sealed anyway...
