New Help on some vacuums

I just got this General electric hand vac model av40 from one of my grandma's freinds. The belt is stretched and it keeps slipping. I cannot find any info on it at all. She said she thought it was from the 1940's, which makes sense. When were these made?, and could I even find a belt for this? It is a rounded belt ( like a hoover convertible belt, but much smaller).

eureka bravo world vac, and kenmore magicord

I know bravos are common, but I have only seen 1 other bravo world vac exactly like this on craigslist. It was my grandma's freind's aunts, and it wasn't used for long. Are these uncommon?
I don't know much about the kenmore next to it. It was given to me a couple of months ago by a freind of my grandma's. I know that it was whirlpool made, and it was a competitor to the hoover concepts. I have only seen one other one like this, on this site somewhere, in this color. It's self propelled too. Are these considered rare?

Your best bet,

Would likely be the common Dirt-Devil or Royal 103 Handheld vacuum belt, You can find these about anywhere.


Those Old GE's are about the hardest to find belts for, When it comes the matching upright I own, the late 1940s Model AVF-26, I've found that a newer-model Generation series belt works fine. 


 


Does anyone else find it odd they used round belts in the handheld, and in the 1970s, Used a flat belt for their upright?


They where backwards from the rest of the world!

As for that Eureka World-Vac and Kenmore,

I would say the Kenmore is quite uncommon, But I do see that world-vac every now-and-then. Just remember, It isn't the rarity, It's the machine itself.

Finally, these two

I got this eureka freedom from a vacuum shop's basement. It seems like it is in decent shape. Are these uncommon? I have seen only 2 others. I do not have the battery, and I have no idea if it runs. Does anybody know if i can get a battery for this?
This premier came from a garage sale for $5. I have not seen another like this one yet. It is in very good shape. I'm assuming these are uncommon? When were these made?

Finally, I got this bissell easy vac plus 2 days ago at a yard sale for $5. It is really powerful. Again, I can't find any info on this at all, not even a picture.
Does anybody remember these?

Sadly, I tried the dirt devil hand vac belt, and it's too long and fat for it. It may just have to sit as a display piece- Mitchell

Well,

That premier was originally a General-Electric brand machine, their last model. When G-E decided to abandon the vacuum business in 1972/1973, Premier bought the design and made them under the Premier label.


I don't see many around, And would say it is an uncommon cleaner, lucky you finding one, One day I hope to call one my own!


 


That Bissell "Thing", While it is an odd design, I would not say is rare. It is likely from about a decade ago, and it's simpler brothers sold in larger numbers than this model. I've seen them before, There's one down the street from me on someone's carport!

Looking at that picture, Your Premier is likely a M.O.L (Middle-Of-Line) Model, As It would  appear this model has the interesting (And quite unique) "Auto-Matic" conversion. How this worked was there would be a hose port sticking out from the rear, usually on the left side. You would insert the hose, pull a lever, and a gate would close the suction from the base and divert it to the hose,


Cool, Isn't it?


 


It's also a "Two-Speed", As, Like it's convertible cousin (Oh dear, Wait until John sees my Comparing THIS  to a HOOVER!), Switched into higher-gear when attachments mode was activated. That know on the left is a low/high suction regulator,I don't know what the right-know is for. The T.O.L had an automated cord-reel. I've found a video of the T.O.L model in the link below.


 


 


I'm sorry to here the belt did not work- I'll scrounge around and try to find you a replacement, Do you have a picture of the inner belt arrangement?

Just a footnote to Eureka's World Vac line of machines: a portion of the proceeds from each sale was donated to a certain fund for the preservation of forests and parklands, if I remember correctly. It was kind of a promotion to show the company was thinking about the world environment.

Love the Eureka Freedom! Would love to see a video of it in action if you could find a battery somewhere!

Yes, the premier has a a tool port, it's your left in the picture. To your right, that lever is for the height adjustment. It seems to work well. The same sale that I got it at had a singer powermaster ( which I bought for $5, and needed a belt, luckily a stretched out belt worked), and they also had a hoover spirit ( didn't buy it b/c I have the more uncommon j.c penney version of that already), 2 regina electric brooms ( should have bought one), a load of hoover type c bags, and constellation bags, with old hoover tools from the 40's, and a hoover constellation floor/ rug tool. In the end, I bought the premier, singer, all of the vacuum bags, the old hoover tools, along with the constellation tool, for $15. That was the LAST thing I thought I would find that day. Sometimes, you just get lucky!

exposure to the sun

You should not expose your vacuums indirect sun light! It is not good for them, also sun light can damage or fade or heat up your vacuums. Make sure that your vacuum room, is cool, dark, dry, and with climate control, use a/c unit as a backup if the room heats up 85 degrees or more.

Yea I know it's not good but they pretty much have no where else to go for the moment. I may buy cheap curtians to cover the 2 sides of the wall that get the most sunlight. I do keep the windows open most of the summer to try to keep it cool. They will probably go into the basement after it is cleaned up. Luckily we have never had water issues down there and it is cool.

If you have to store vacuums near a window-get heavier curtains or shades to block the sunlight and keep the room cooler.Then no worries at all.One room I keep vacuums in I keep the shades drawn to block the sunlight.Heavy drapes cost little from yard sales-and block sunlight-and they save on your AC bills!
