I saw the new Electrolux today. It's white with silver trim.
It hit me with mixed reviews. Here is the good stuff:
(1) 40% more powerful motor
(2) brushless motor
(3) enclosed hepa filter
(4) improved start/stop switch
(5) tools store on hose end
(6) new design of floor brush (shaped more like the floor brush on the early XXX's
(7) lower price about $1600 verses $2100 for Guardian
(8) repairable motor
(9) new design of hose handle
(10) nice Silver and white color
(11) built in lights for full bag, power on,no bag in cleaner
(12) ligher weight 11 pounds vs 17 for Guardian
BUT-ON THE DOWN SIDE:
(1) no more 3 speed motor control
(2) no more automatic control that can be adjusted
(3) shorter power cord and return to older style window shade cord return
(4) smaller bag-like the original Electrolux style bag
(5) no more flip-over rug/floor tool
(6) canister guarenteed for 20 years and not 25 years
In summary I think they have tried to make a durable, simplified machine that is lightweight. Very nice looking color combo when you see it in person

Can't wait to see it. I've got a few questions though.

1) Is this a evolution of the Guardian or is this an all new design?

2) Is the new bag a actual type c bag, or an all new bag?

3) Any power nozzle changes?

4) Any effects on other models?

kinda steep $1600...wow. are you really gonna buy one? would love to see some pics ...waaaaay outta my league.

Speaking of price, I thought the guardian was $1500, and anything over that was against company policy.

New Electrolux Model

See if I can answer some questions:
(1) looks just like a 2100 with sleeker rounded top
(2) don't know where they are manufactured
(3) bag looks just like regular Lux bag
(4) there will be no more of the Epic/Guardian style
(5) they will still make the less expensive Lux Classic
and the upright
(6) I am sure I paid over $1100.00 for my Epic 8000 way back in 1998.
(7) no change in power nozzle but the hose handle is new style with off/on and different suction relief opening.
(8) change in the tubes. Guardian Tools will not fit the new machine.
(9) I think they made a smart move to reduce the price when you look at what they are asking for a new Kirby,Rainbow,Tristar or Filter Queen. Look at it this way- I got a $500.00 Dyson and several new Hoover's this year that are very poor construction and you know won't be around in 20 years.
Hope this answers some questions. It is better looking in person than in a picture. It seems very powerful at the hose end.

I was selling them for about $1,699.99 for Guardian and 799.99 for the floor pro, 1,500.00 for the TOL upright, and 499.99 for the classic. This was in 2003

New Electrolux Model

Is the new model coming out like the old metal vacs like a super J or Silverado??? If they are I would buy one in a heartbeat.. I love my old style tanks (Metal Ultralux- I was told they were the last metal ones to be made)Then they came out with the Rennasance- Well Martha Stewart had one so I had to have one... After I bought it I was very disappointed... It was big and bulky and hard to use. But I did like the fact it had a three speed motor. Oh well the Rennasance sits in the closet hardly ever used but I use the Ultralux a lot....

new electrolux

Dan,
I don't think they are going to go back to the metal. I have never see a problem with the lighter weight plastic tanks although I am with you and prefer the old metal machines.
The machine I saw looked just like the shape of the 2100. I love all the deluxe features of my 8000 but it is much heavier and a little more bulk in use.
Interesting fact about Martha Stewart using an Electrolux.

Martha/electrolux !

Yes, I have seen Martha using electrolux several times over the years. I have always imagined being her salesman and
her saying,"Oh a new model, I'll 5/6 of them for each of
my homes" (or at least 2 lux one up and down in three of her
homes) Like I sold Mrs. Loraine Thomas one Christmas for
her 3 girls (yes, one was Wendy) a Hoover Concept Power
drive plus 2 for up and down in she and Dave's home. OH,
she forget, and ordered one more for the floridia home, too.
For a total of Six. Blew my Vac Shop Sales out of the
the water for the next Dec. Could not match that week!! LOL.

I'm sorry that they are doing away with the rug floor flip tool. I never use the automatic control on my diamond jubilee anyway so I don't care about that. I'd love to see a picture of it... I checked Aerusonline.com but didn't see one. Anyone know where it can be found?

new electrolux

Hi,

I spoke with the repair person I usually buy from. They are taking orders for the new machines. I asked what the new model was called. Guardian Ultra. He will have brochures in a few days.

are they still using the "aerus" name with the new vac?

i haven't been this happy since it was oregon trail day at school.

Hey Joe

They have no choice but to use the Aerus name. They are no longer Electrolux and, from what I have read, no longer have any rights to the name Electrolux at all as of the end of this year. The rights to the name were sold back to Electrolux Sweden in order to pay for Tri-Star / Compacts purchase of the company in 2000.

So does that mean they will be dropping the "Lux" name as well? I really hate what Eureka is doing to the Electrolux name at big box retailers.

I think the LUX name is just their way of trying to get around the legalities. They know they made a big mistake marketing wise getting rid of the name and have done everything possible to try to hang on to it. I wish they had put as much effort into hanging on to the quality of the machines. Having worked for Electrolux through the late 80's and 90's as a service manager (among other things) I can say that, while the new machines have got more power it was done by sacrificing the quality of the product. You will never see one of these new machines still running in 50 years or more like the old ones. As far as the European Electroluxes now in stores they are good in their own way but have alot of drawbacks that the older european ones didnt have too.

have not been able to find any info on the net about this. please post pic/info if anyone finds out anything else about the new lux.

lux place in town is saying nothing !

Things I picked up as I read the brochure

Power Nozzle now has an overheat shutoff.
The Aerus symbol lights up when plugged in to show its ready.
The buttons have been redone on the wands, but they look the same to me otherwise, except for color. I was hoping for smaller...
As mentioned before bag change indicator, no bag, thermal protection indicators.

Standard accessories include, Sidekick, Floor tool, Combo tool, Crevice tool, Accessory Caddy (fits on wands), True sealed hepa filtration, and adapter to use with floor tool or combo tool. Hose connects just like the SR6500 (line up the arrows).

Hope this helps people who are curious like me.
