New Dyson DC50

Did anyone see the demonstrations on HSN today for the introduction of the new Dyson DC50?
They showed some very interesting new features today like a new brush bar with carbon fibers. It could be left on for hard surface cleaning and it did not scratch the floor. Sort of acted as both a sweeper for the loose dirt and a dust mop to remove the layer of dust.
Also has a new motor design with the motor for the brush bar located within the brush bar itself. It did not look like any Dyson brush I have evern seen before. Much larger diameter like the old Hoover's or my Rainbow brush. The claim it will not catch the hair as much and require cleaning.
Also used the machine to pick up chalk dust WITHOUT the filter on the machine and a black test cloth on the side to show you the cyclones do trap the fine dust.
Also added 5 additional feet of power cord per customer feed back of having too short power cords.
Dyson is not a machine that works for me because of the dust bin but it was an interesting demonstration and did show the no loss of suction and filtering ability of the machine. Dyson does seem to be customer focused.
Very interesting machine. I think they have sold over 9000 today alone.

Well, it's about time that dyson released this in the U.S! I was a bit exited when I saw this on their U.K website, but now that I have seen the price on dyson's website, all hopes I had of possibly buying one are gone. I can't spend 500 dollars on a small upright, however good it is. And if dyson released this in the U.S, they may also bring the dc47 canister over here too, and if I were to buy a new dyson, it would be that one.

It was released FIRST on HSN today at $399.00 with free shipping. They said it was being introduced to regular outlets at end of June.
It was a pretty impressive demonstration with the filters out, the black test cloth over the air exhaust and they picked up chalk dust.
They also were using a regular suction meter to show after picking up all the chalk dust it still was pulling the same amount of suction.
At least Dyson is still coming out with new ideas. I don't like the attachment use but it does seem to be an improvement over the last model with an articulating floor brush.
It looks more streamlined but where is the light for the front? Just kidding.
Also did a test with the filter out and just using the cyclones,no dust escaped.
They picked up saw dust,dog hair and showed how the floating nozzle worked on the hard surface floors. Very interesting. It only weighs 11 pounds.
I noticed they have added a second layer of cyclones. I would like to try one out. Just not an upright person and I had dust EVERYWHERE when I tried to empty my bins,but an interesting new machine. I will say I never had ANY odors with my Dyson upright or canisters and they were very easy to sell.

I saw that after my previous post, and the HSN offer seams much more reasonable. But I still don't think I will buy one. I do think that it will be better than the older dc24, which I own. However I would prefer to wait to see if the dc47 comes over here, I am kinda sick of upright vacuums. I empty my bagless vacuum's in the garage, so no dust gets back into the house. I do think that dysons retain smells very well.

I do like the looks of the canister. I just sold my Dyson upright and canister.
My canister worked very well but the hose was too short and mine only had the turbine brush.

Rob,

I supose that is a posibility, but they will probably give it the same tools as the dc26, just a turbo brush and floor brush.

I saw it last night

and what really impressed me when they picked up chalk dust. I have never seen another vacuum demo that the dust wouldn't spew out everywhere and on everyone & I was watching the high def. very closely ... LOL. The other thing is how do we know there wasn't a filter in the cyclone when they did the demo in the chamber with all the smoke since it is sealed tight?? I'm still trying to figure all that out. If they have figured out all that, how can a new model come out after this one is perfectly done??? They going to have 3 layers of cyclones?

I am not a Dyson user myself. I have owned both the upright and canister but I have to say the chalk demo was pretty impressive on live tv with that black test cloth.
I liked their innovative tool designs too. In reality,I did not like using the tools with either of my Dysons but it was more about the hose length on the canister and the machine's suction pulling my upright over all the time.
One of the hosts early in the day gave a statement that made me stop and think too. He said why use old technology and pull around a "garbage can" of stored dirt and filth in a bag. That is what appealed to me about the Rainbow. It just made sense to me to not store and save the dirt and bacteria and germs from week to week and blow air through it.
Also had an interesting demo of cleaning the different carpet pile heights and bare floors using the brush bar ON when cleaning the hard surface floors.
The new design of the brush looked like a big improvement over the Dysons I have owned in the past.

if everyone had thought that about the older cleaners we probably would still be sweeping our floors. people think of old vacs that way because the new technology makes us do that. if bagless had never been invented we would still be cleaning our floors the old way and not refering to them as 'garbage cans'

I think you are right!
Everything old is NEW again! When I was very small I remember my grandmother would sit her Hoover on the back porch after she cleaned and remove the bag,empty it on newspaper and then many times turn the bag inside out and hang it on the line to air it out. My other grandmother had an Electrolux XXX and she would empty the bag out and then it was my job to hit it on the side of a tree the make sure it was clean. They never put their machines away with dirt in the bags. Now that was a LONG time ago!
They had bagless years ago but in a different form. I can remember sitting on the couch and the whole room would have that familiar "dusty" smell and in the sunlight you could see the dust in the air. That was a LONG time ago.
My parents were the first to buy an Air-Way with the throw-a-way bags in the early 50's. Back then the bags were cheap and they changed them at least every other week.

It was much simple back then

when most people had time to properly clean. Vacuums didn't have all these electronic boards on them to fail. As a child I remember my home was always spotless & my mother cleaned every Friday. We had a kirby and kept it in the attached garage (the floor had tile on it) because our home didn't have much closet space and it was always clean and that was with a cloth bag. I remember it never smelled BUT I do remember some of the neighbors home having a pecular smell to them which I knew they didn't clean as well as my mother.
But back then you would have an upright if you had alot of wall to wall carpet and a canister vacuum to do the rest. Most complaints I remember was from people owning the hoover convertibles with the attachment port in the rear saying the suction was non existant. The hoover d.a.m. were the best of both worlds but they were a little more heavy nad if you had thick shag carpet, you got a work out until the power drive d.a.m. came out. The other thing I remember people held onto their vacuums & didn't get rid of them like they do now. Most things I have notice while newer vacuums are getting larger, furniture seems to be getting smaller because every older upright went under everything. Notice on the Dyson demo where is the furniture (not just a round thingy in the middle of the room, a couch, coffee table & the like of a home?? Goodness knows i'm not trying to start anything but my opinion it seems easier to vacuum with vintage machine. Mark
