New Dyson DC40

I was watching the presentation of the new Dyson DC40 on HSN this morning. There are a couple of things that seem strange to me.
(1) they are showing a new nozzle that they say "seals" to your floor.
How can that work because I thought you had to have "air flow" to remove dirt?
(2) when they show dumping the bin,they ALWAYS use fake dirt that would not raise any cloud of dust. That sure is not the reality of what happens when I try and empty my Dyson.
(3) When they demonstrate the tools ,they are either holding the top of the handle or have it sitting against the stairs so the machine will not fall over. Not the reality when I try and use the tools for my Dyson. They did the stair cleaning demonstration with the machine turned off.
(4) They show it cleaning the bare floors. I cannot ever get an upright to really clean and dust my hardwood floors, although it will pick up the loose dirt.

It does look very light and streamlined compared to the older models. I do like the Dyson tools. Do any of you have the new Dyson DC40?
I like the Dysons except for messing with that dust bin.

Im wondering something - what is stopping people from lining the dust bins with a clear food bag - like a zip lock bag? It reminds me of the time when Hoover UK used to sell plastic dust bags that were put into the bottom of their Purepower based Cyclean and Vortex vacuums. The marketing idea didn't last as people ended up either using the machine without a bag in place, or resorted to using cheaper food bags. If the bag can be placed inside the canister when the base is opened to line the bin, someone should test this on an old Dyson and let people know.

Yep I do , Its fantastic and a great cleaner. It works extreamly well on both carpets and hardfloors I have 80sqm of carpet in my house and 114sqm of wood/marble and laminate wood. its the first upright to clean all really well. The carpet in my house is all plush thick pile carpet.


 


Its so much lighter than the dc25 and is much easier to use. it steers so much better too.


 


I have never had any dyson fall over however I do not like the stretch hoses on any upright but  this one is not as springy as others.


The brushes are much stiffer than on other dyson models

New Dyson DC40

Gareth,Thanks for the picture and information. The lighter weight should be great. I like the sleek new look.
Sorry I didn't qualify my statment about the machine falling over. I have the OLDER style DC07. Every time I try and use the hose attachent the machine either jerks and hits you or it falls over as you move around. It does have very strong
suction. I would think this new DC40 should have a strong appeal for women with the lighter weight.
I have noticed on previous Home Shopping presentations they are VERY careful to have someone either hold on to the machine when they demo the dusting tools or have the machine proped against the bottom stair. I think most of the problem is the strong suction and the stretch hose.
