As I moved boxes of magazines and turned a few pages I see something I know nothing about in a June 12,1965 Business Week."Sears sweeps a path with no-cord vacuum--Introduction of its lightweight Kenmore Cordless Vac puts one of the nations smartest merchandisers behind the development of battery-powered large appliances."The picture with the full page article shows a Whirlpool/Oreck vac face down with a hard shell upper body and a lady inserting battery pack in the same area that the Eureka Freedom would later have its battery. It was stated that Sears would introduce the vac"next week".It was to be expensive($159.95)with an expected limited demand. It was less than 16 pounds and said to operate for 20-25 minutes.
The article continues"both Electrolux and Hoover had sweepers on display last year at a Union Carbide Corp.(battery maker)exhibit of cordless equipment."
For more turn to page 41.
Anyone know more?!Could this have been in small Sears catalog for specific 'test'areas?
About 1980 there was a regular size Electrikbroom with battery pack and later a smaller, lighter version. Then the Eureka Freedom of 90s and later the Westinghouse/Fantom Unplugged. The Black & Decker rechargables were smaller. And in recent years Dyson,Hoover and more.
