And Another Arrival...
This one followed me home from Salvation Army. Hoover U3105 Power-Drive Concept One! It's in good condition, but had the horrendously noisy needle bearings in the motor. Tore it down, cleaned up, polished, and lubed the noisy bearings, and it's good as new!
I will say one thing.....I HATE the Hoover Power-Drive setup. It's entirely too jerky and I've run over my foot twice with it now! I've never used a Hoover propelled cleaner before, so I'm guessing there's a learning curve to it. The sliding handle setup gives the whole cleaner a very "cheap" and nasty feeling to me, but it does a good job, so I forgive it!

New Arrival (Hoover U3105)
I bought one of those lovely machines in the 70's when I was working for the Ramada Inn in town.I used my own vacuums because the hotels were all a piece of s--t. I worked in the maintence dept. My job was to clean the hotel from the lobby all the way back through the convention center. I loved that machine even when it's touchy self-propel system was always backing me up against a wall.. One day it made me mad and I kicked it clear across the lobby!! But I swear I have never abused another vacuum again.....LOL

I have that same model-I also have the model that has the speed control on the back of the tank unit.Its a later model-they moved the control to the tank becasue they were havving trouble with the one mounted on the hose handlegrip.I like both machines-the most powerful canisters I have!The big thing I DON'T like about them is that jet blast coming out of the back of the machine-you have to be careful where its pointed-otherwise its like a hurricane in the room.I wish a filter-diffuser could have been provided-you could remove it to use the machine as a blower.As a blower its as powerful as many types of air compressors.I think TTI was stupid to discontinue these machines-also the Royal Prince metal hand vacuum.If you use the powernozzle a lot-be sure to lay in a big supply of bags-they fill up fast with powernozzle use.

about the exaust just yesterday it blew a few furballs out from under the couch when I was dusting the celing.I guess I shoulda did the floor first. With hardwoods the dirt and dog furr seems to collect under furnature & corners fast. As far as bags go the sure do fill fast.I need to get some I have a few Pro-team bags that fit OK the just don't have the sealed top so I have to be careful when I open it.

Thats interesting the ProTeam bags will fit the Royal tanks-I have a ProTeam backpack vacuum and a pack of bags.The Peroteam is alsmost similar in design to the Royal-just vertical with a backpack mount instead of wheels.Most janitor supply places have the ProTeam bags-also DVC now makes replacement bags for the Royal tank along with the filter that goes inside.I have a good stock of the Royal bags-bought several packages when I bought the machines.

Warning - Brake Failure
Very nice Eric! Use caution with the power-drive, which I assume is pretty much the same as the Dial-A-Matic... I find that on my DAM it sometimes doesn't stop when you think it will. 9000lb Metal Dial-A-Matic vs glass TV stand... well you get the idea.

my Power drives are soooo noisy too. I guess I should take mine apart and clean them too. I never had I dont use them cause they are just so loud.

Both nice machines. The Hoover is in great cosmetic shape considering that it's self-propelled. Of course you haven't used either of them yet since we're still in the test period!

I have used them both, but only in the vacuum room. I've used the Singer to clean up afterwards, so any dirt/grit/sand that was left behind is now in the Singer! Gotta make videos you know....

Taking apart this model was a nightmare! I'm sure I could get the Space Shuttle apart quicker! Just to get the motor unit out of the base you have to disassemble the ENTIRE base and take the chassis off. Once that's done you have to open the motor chamber and deal with like 1" of wire play! It's a PAIN!!! It took me close to 4 hours to do it yesterday and I was bookin' it! I had to do the same thing to the Non-P/D model and it wasn't that much easier, but there was certainly less BS involved. The bearing whine/howl comes from the pulley end of the motor. For whatever reason Hoover decided that needle bearings were a good idea... WRONG! The grease goes bad and then they get packed with dirt.....it just makes a mess. The bearing in this P/D model had gotten so hot that the grease had turned a black/purple color! It's still got some whine to it, but NOTHING like it did now that it's been repacked with fresh grease.

The red button on the handle is to disengage the power drive.

I suggest you find an extra hose, they were made well,but a little complex,If you contact Mike Rogers at the Henry Company in Chicago, ph.219-922-6262, he will help you out ,I dont know if it is still available,but it soon wont be more than likely, a spare never hurt,
