5-Year Warranty Sticker

Here are photos from an old eBay listing showing the Super J 5-Year Warranty sticker for the motor and fan unit and its Model PN-4 power nozzle, hose, and small tool. The serial's affixes were K_R, and the original date of sale was February 2, 1978 (according to its manual).

It could be that the only Super Js with the 5-Year Warranty sticker were those with the K_P and K_R serial affixes.

"Fyi ... the PN-5s were made in 2 colors--black (to complement the Silverado's 2-tone gray colors) and later sand/jade (to match the Model 1521/Diamond Jubilees. In fact, I believe the first Diamond Jubilees may have had the black PN-5s. Rugsucker would know for sure."

I actually think there may have been 3 iterations of the PN-5. The later Silverado Deluxe models have a black PN-5 with a round, red reset button. To my knowledge, the first Diamond Jubilees had Sand/Jane PN-5s also with the round, red reset button. Later in the DJ life cycle, the PN-5 returned to black, but it featured a squareish off-white reset switch (instead of the round button). I can confirm that that the black DJ PN-5 came after the sand PN-5 because the Marquise's power nozzle also featured the squareish off-white reset switch.

Nice Super J though! I recently acquired a Golden J... not sure what shape it's in. I'll post pics when it arrives. I actually like the color of those machines. Something about it is so evocative of the 70s... it was the perfect era for Electrolux's 50th Anniversary. It's not beautiful, but it's retro and funky. I prefer the Diamond Jubilee, 1205 and blue-body Ultralux models more, but the J machines round out my top 4.

PN-5/6

If it has a round reset and removable cord(cord must pull out to remove cover) it is a PN-5.If it has an attached cord and rectangular reset(3 position-off/on/reset)it is a PN-6.
PNs always matched new Elux.I think there was a dark gray/black PN with some rebuilts and also with a plain label that stated the vac was part of the donation to United Way that then distributed them to various non profit agencys.

My PN5 is grayish tan (kind of an oatmeal color) with a blackish brown base and a round, red reset button. It came with a matching plastic hose and the newer style two-piece wand.

In the few weeks I've had the thing, I've done a bit of a turnaround on the gold color. I've actually come to like it. Granted, it's an artifact of its era—the '70s were not known for subtlety—but that's part of its charm. Mechanically, it runs great and is a cleaning beast—not quite Kirby caliber, but pretty darned good.

Some tank models had different model pns according to production year.

After the PN-7s the hood-style was simplified with less detail and the model ids were changed to 4-digits.

"Donated by Electrolux" PN

I believe this is the donation label to which Rugsucker was referring:

ronni++5-20-2015-21-49-12.jpg

According to Ronni's list, mine should be a PN6, based on the description of sand with brown trim, but it clearly has the letters "PN5" molded into the brown base.

Edgar,

You do, indeed have a PN-5. Your trim is a dark--almost black green--which is 'jade'. By contrast, the PN-6s would have had the opposite color scheme of PN-5 (v.2)--jade plastic hood with sand-colored trim.

Attached are photos--two of PN-6A and one of PN-6B. Admittedly, one of the PN-6A's bumpers looks more taupe (pinkish brown) than the other. I'm not sure if there was a difference, or if it's just the lighting.

There were so many versions of the PN-6s in particular that I may be a bit off in my descriptions. To top it off, many have had replacement parts by now such as new bumpers or the hoods could have even been switched; so unless someone has original specimens of the "Omni-flo" era cleaners it is hard to be exact.

In addition, I've never read any threads on this site of those who collect Electrolux cleaners of the 1980s--such as those with the *Omni-flo Automatic pns--which makes it more difficult to find correct information.

*(I've corrected the spelling from my previous thread.)

Lol my favorite era is the 80s. But I only have 3... Silverado Deluxe, Diamond Jubilee, and an Ultralux Classic.

It's fairly easy to distinguish between the PN's from the metal body canisters. Throwing the plastic canisters into the mix causes confusion, at least for me, because there were so many different versions of them.

The posted list looks accurate for the PN-5 and PN-6 models, as far as I can tell.

Super J PNs

I just noticed that my 1976 Super J manual still shows the PN-2--with a jade elbow. The 1977 manual (shown below) is the first to show the PN-4; so the PN-4 was either introduced in late 1976 or 1977 (rather than 1975 as I listed in my earlier reply).

Did some or all of the 1205/Jubilees have the teal cords? I'm wondering if the overstock of teal cords was used up on them or if the ivory cords didn't debut until the 1401/Super J? Ditto about the PN-2 change from the jade to ivory elbow

I also observed that there was an ivory wand sheath that was identical to the teal one--that switch was made with the introduction of the Jubilee according to photo literature. The new style of ivory sheath with the exposed wand latch at the bottom seems to have been introduced with the PN-4 according to the 1977 Super J manual.

My Golden J has a beige PN cord. I'm assuming that everything is original with my machine since it has so many original, matching parts.

I think Electrolux left some of the parts teal on purpose (PN elbow, floor brush, crevice tool). I say this because the "Golden Jubilee" emblem is mostly teal, so it would make sense for some of the attachments to match that.

You make a good point about the '50th Jubilee' decal which was teal-colored. And since it was still officially a Model 1205 (service manuals tacked on a 'J' to make a distinction between the teal 1205s and the gold) it likely retained the teal cord on the PN-2 and some of the attachments. Another possibility is that teal-colored overstock was used on the early Jubilees and later ones were furnished with the new ivory color items. The ones I have seen for the Jubilees, Super Js, and Olympia Ones have ivory tools with no secondary color--except for the brush plates that were painted the same as the tank bodies (which had been done since the tool was introduced on the Model E in 1954).

Along with the teal accessories you mentioned I wanted to also mention that the hoses for the Jubilee and gold Model L of the same period were snow white with triple teal/gold/teal tracers. These were also used on the early Super Js. However, the later gold Super J and gold Model L hoses had triple teal/white/teal tracers.

In fact, beginning with the Model F in 1957 teal was used as a tracer color--even though there was no other teal on the tank like the Super Js and gold Model Ls. Ditto for the drop-down Model R. Then came the aqua Model G and ivory Model L turquoise hose with double teal/white tracers, but the teal matched the trim on the tanks. So there doesn't seem to be a consistent reason teal was used in hose tracers other than it was an attractive and complementary color.

I neglected to mention that the color of the PN-2 elbows through the Jubilees was 'jade' (they were made in ivory for the early- to mid-Super Js), a dark green which matched the later teal 1205's automatic control panel and bag door. The likely reason the PN-2 elbow color changed from the teal-colored PN-1 elbows was due to the larger size of its pivots than those of the latter; to avoid mix-ups when being serviced. Otherwise teal would have probably continued to be used.

This is a question for someone with knowledge like human, Rugsucker, and Suxolux. Anybody who can get me an answer is welcome to tell. My Silverado has a similar problem to this Super J. The bag door doesnt close all the way. When i push it all the way closed, the motor seems to gain RPM and when I let go it returns to its first position. Is that normal?

Check the suction control?

I can't give you a definitive answer but you might want to check and make sure the automatic suction control is working properly. There was a set of instructions posted here a few months ago showing how to tear one down and repair it.

I was sweeping with it today. If i put the control on one, it opens (bag is about 2/3 or 3/4 full). I put it on two, and it opened. The switch to open the door was 'quivering' on 3 and I always run it on 4. Obvious loss of suction by this point but i only have a few bags left. I might run it on 3, but im not sure

What 'Suckolux' said...

Agreed. It sounds like a bag problem. Fortunately, 'C' bags are plentiful and cheap. The best bang for your buck will be to order them in bulk from eBay. I got 24 for $15.45 with free shipping earlier this year. The offer is still there (see link below). If you've got the cash, an even better deal is 100 for $39.99 shipped, to which you will see a link on this listing. These are good quality four-ply generic bags and I can attest to their excellent performance. And no, I am not a paid spokesperson.

I got 6 unused genuine electrolux bags plus one in the machine when Electrolux-Dude sent me my silverado. Plus I have 10 generics left. I tossed the generic I had in it (full) and put one of the genuine bags in it. So much suction with a new bag! I hope i get some time out of this bag, since i wont use the rest of the genuines, or the bags from the '60's i got with my Lx. im only going to use my generics since they are cheap.
