Hi everyone! My mother has been without a washing machine for about a month now due to a what seems to be a failed MCU. I've popped it's top panel off and taken the technician's book confirming that the error code (F1E2) pertains to the MCU after hearing it fail it's distinctive 2nd click when trying to engage the drum. I've attached pictures of the front of her manual, the technician's manual with the error code it's flashing, and a picture of the washer she sent me. If someone could help me find the part # that is the intended replacement, I would very much so appreciate it. I've found some conflicting information online and I'm scared to order a part and get her hopes up for it to not work when it gets here. If anyone requests anymore details that I may have overlooked, I will get them and reply ASAP! Thanks!

Is this a Whirlpool Duet front loading washer? If so, I had to replace the board on mine as well. It would not go through the normal wash cycle. The manual you posted on pics 2 and 3 are for a dryer. The model and serial # are on the inside when you open the door. I recall that you need both to get the proper part #. I seem to remember the same code and doing a test to check for a good ground and some sort of ohm (resistance) test on the motor. The board did fix mine, but was not real cheap even though I had a source that gave me a great price on it, because I sell them vacuum parts. I would be willing to get a part # for you, but would need all of the information. These guys know their stuff, and you can typically get a good price online, once you know the part number.

Morning

It is a Whirlpool duet! I'll ask my mother to send me different manual pictures in the morning and tell her where to find her model/serial #! Thanks for the help. Haha! Washers baffle me. When I popped the access panel on the back of hers off I was astounded with how few parts made it up I'll hopefully be posting by tomorrow afternoon with a model/serial # and have the part ordered for her by the next day. The cheapest washer she can buy locally is nearly $400(@Lowes) and it's crap in comparison to her Whirlpool, so she says if she only has to replace this part to get another 5+ years out of it she's saving money. I'm so ashamed that I didn't even notice she sent me the manual for the dryer before posting. LOL

See if you can pull the top cover off, ( two screws located in the back, top should slide back and up) and snap me a photo of the board, I might know where a board is at a good price. Or grab me the mod number from the badge on the inside of the door on the front panel. I used to work for an appliance company that is certified by whirlpool.

Finally!

I finally was able to get pictures of the badge. Excuse the mess and wear on the sticker! The error is still F1E2 so that seems to mean I'll need a MCU. If any of y'all have a new one or know where I can get a new one reasonably cheap I'd be exhilarated. I wish we could switch to a vintage set, but mom paid over $1500 per machine if I recall correctly, and she loves this set more than any other. She intends to keep it alive as long as possible.

Hoping for longer!

We are hoping they'll last at least another 5. She doesn't like change and doesn't want to go back to old style washers. I did try to talk her into a pretty porcelain set from (I think) the 50's I saw online, but that was a no go. :(

Outside of this one part going bad after using it at least 4-5 times a day with full, heavy loads 7 days a week, she's surprised nothing has gone wrong sooner. It seems to be fairly well built considering all the plastic pieces.

Haha I was only kidding, Whirlpool made some pretty GREAT washers a while back, up into the late 90s (I'm thinking of the Kenmore 90 and 70 series and stuff, not sure when they stopped making those). Good luck with these new pairs, keep us posted! If anything goes wrong, don't say you didn't try to talk her into upgrading!

I gave the model # to my appliance guy. He is checking. I think they had a problem with these boards, but have improved the replacement. I like this machine because of the large load size it can handle, and the fast spin speed. Clothes come out just slightly damp and do not take as long to dry.

The part number for the board is W10374126 and they are pricey. Only a few on amazon and ebay, most go for around $229.00. The guy also said that there is a $60 core charge. No mention of this on most of the online stores. The board is in the front of the machine on the bottom left. You have to remove the large cover on the front just below the door. Two screws on the very bottom facing straight out. I remember it was hard to twist the screwdriver because it was so close to the floor.

Thanks again!

Ordering the one I saw on Amazon. Thankfully (or I think thankfully), Mom's washer is on the pedestal which keeps things high off the ground and makes it pretty easy to rummage around when you pop it's covers off. :)

$200 is still less than the cost of a new washer, but I know that when I have the money to buy my own set, it's gonna be a vintage set! Hoping to save up for a pretty porcelain pre-70's set of whatever I can find that's pretty and powerful. LOL

When I bought my house a couple of years ago, it had a '90s vintage Whirlpool washer and a '70s vintage Kenmore dryer, so I sold my late '80s vintage GE washer and dryer instead of moving them. The dryer was pretty much kaput within six months. Wish I'd tried it out before I sold mine; I'd have kept the dryer for sure. Fortunately, I found a Roper dryer, made by Whirlpool, that was roughly the same vintage as the washer at a thrift store for $60. That was $5 cheaper than a service call under my home warranty, so I decided to upgrade. Except for some minor cosmetic differences in the control panels, they look like they should go together and the new dryer works way better than either that old Kenmore or the GE that I sold.

never again

will I buy a Whirlpool laundry washer.
I have a 5 year old Maytag Bravos X top loader. It had new bearings and a gear case replaced last year under extended warranty. It's noisy again already.
I'll try the direct drive Samsung next one. My sister says hers has been dependable for 4 years, with only a dim display window, but it washes fine.
Whirlpool front loaders are no better for bearing durability either.
