Hi everyone! I thought I would share my love for mixers! Starting with the back stand mixers, to the left are: my 1938 Sunbeam 3b named "Bernadine", my 1957 Dormeyer Mixwell named "Dormey", and my 1950 Sunbeam 10b named "Geraldine". Now the front hand mixers, to the left are: my pink Sunbeam named "Sunny", my brown JC Penny named "Brownie", my green Sunbeam named "Woody", and my pink General Electric named "Jenny". By the way, I name any in adamant object that I love! I'll share some history on all of them. My husband bought "Bernadine" off of Ebay for me, talking to the seller, he said it was his mother's mixer, so which is cool, I'm the second owner!!! She didn't come with the large bowl, so down the road I'll have to get her one. I will be restoring her and painting her aqua. I got "Dormey" off of Ebay as well. We just have to run thru him to make sure he's good to go. My "Geraldine" I got at one of our local antique stores downtown. This was the very first stand mixer I ever got! I paid slightly under $13.00 for her!!! When I found her at the store, she was hidden on a low shelf in the darkest spot, I couldn't even really tell what it was until I took it off of the shelf! She was in very rough shape! She didn't come with bowls or beaters; I had to do extensive research to figure out exactly what bowls and beater she needed! Plus, where her bowl adjuster is, it was missing the lever/knob and was crushed to the point that you couldn't use it! She was the first motor rebuild I ever saw! My husband took her completely apart and showed me everything. He painted her pink and repainted her stand black. He fixed her crushed in lever slot. I was able to find her an original lever/knob which we still have to put on. Oh, and her speed dial was cracked! My husband repaired that as well! We still have to paint her speed dial black and paint the white on the letters. She's come along way and works great!!! She loves to make cake! Ha Ha!!! Time for my hand mixers. My pink Sunbeam "Sunny" I just bought off of Ebay for my birthday. She didn't come with beaters or a power cord, but since I have other exact mixers, I just share with her. When I got her, she ran slow, not to her greatest potential so my husband took her apart and I got to watch how to fix her. She runs great now!!! My JC Penny "Brownie" I bought off of Ebay for my birthday as well. He came with his beaters, cord, and original manual. He ran good, but not great. This was the first hand mixer I ever took apart and cleaned all by myself! He purrs now!!! Also, we made that front decal for him. He didn't have one so I wanted an engine turned decal. My husband showed me how to engine turn that decal on aluminum tape. Looks pretty cool, I'm happy with it! My Sunbeam "Woody" came from our local thrift store downtown. I paid $3.00 for him. He came with beaters and cord. He was the first hand mixer my husband ever took apart to show me how to fix them. He runs wonderful! We've already used him a few times!!! Lastly, is my General Electric "Jenny". I bought her off of Etsy a few years back for my birthday. She came with beaters and cord. She was real slow like and gummy sounding. I did use her a few times to make cake before we cleaned her up. We just took her apart a week ago and got her running back to how she should be. She works great now!!! As of now, I have an older Sunbeam hand mixer on it's way to my house from Ebay and I will be bidding on two more hand mixers on Ebay in the next day or two! I'm obsessed with them!!! They're sooo fun to work on!!! I can't wait to work on more!!! Thought I would share a bit of my happiness with everyone!!! :) -Michelle

Nice little collection of mixers-I am betting the collection will grow!Glad you can restore and repair them.I am always on the lookout for older machines like yours. The best--better than ones built today. And the older ones will really last longer!Sometimes get lucky and find ones at yoard sales-and got several from the late Kelly!Ues 'em toady-along with my Blendtec and VitaMix blenders. The Sunbeams and blenders are the most used machines in my kitchen!

mixers

Hi,
I got rid of mixers when I moved last year , miss them, but no room. I kept a few that I use all the time.

Funny thing, I just wrapped gifts and I gave my son who is in college a HAm Beach hand mixer complete with cabinet in harvest gold. Gave him a bunch of baking mixes and he will need a mixer. It was in perfect shape, and I paid $7 at Goodwill.Beats any of the China stuff in the stores, and I work in the home dept. of a large chain.

I grew up with A sunbeam 10 like in your photo. Great mixer, was on the counter for over 25 years. Then, I bought my mom a new one for Xmas in 1973 harvest gold, MM100 Sunbeam with glass bowls., She was thrilled.

I use my Sunbeams 12C, MM200 and 1-80, all chrome for most of my needs. I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and a hand one.I like the nostalgia of the old ones better.

I like the Sunbeams for mixing batters and "liquidy" things--for some jobs the blender is too much. The Sunbeams are just right.Planetary machines like KA and Kenwoods are GREAT for preparing and kneading doughs.Use my KA and Kenwoods for Cookie doughs mainly.

mixers

Kitchenaid makes the best mixers. The older smaller ones are great. I don't like the big clumsy ones they make now. The older kitchenaids all have the orbital beater which works the best.

Yes,I have some KA and Kenwood type planetary mixers-like these for bread and cookie dough. The Sunbeam twin blade mixers work better than the KA and Kenwood for batters and such.So I have and use both.I have some hand held portable mixers-just don't use them-just as easy to fire up the Sunbeam or KA.Or if nothing else-just dismount the Sunbeam motor-beater head from the base--and now you have a hand held mixer-heavy and large-but gets it done.

It followed me home...

Today was my Day Off so I went out for the afternoon to do some shopping and have a little bit of lunch, it was sunny and warm so I left my jacket at home and I even wore my sunglasses. I stopped in at the local thrift store to see what vacuums they had... and nothing caught my fancy, then I noticed a man bringing in a cart of new merchandise and on the middle shelf was a chrome Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer with a set of bowls and blades. Now, I want you to know I behaved myself. I waited till he put it on a display shelf before I grabbed it up and ran for the check out line. Oh, yes. I did stop long enough to check to make sure that it was in good working order, but it was still paid-for before it had been five minutes on the salesfloor. I have only been wanting a chrome Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer since the early '90s and until today has been the first time I've not had one thing or other get in the way. Yes, I am very proud of myself for finally finding one of my 'must haves' but now I must do something I'm not very good at... cook something. Oh, damn! I'd better find a cook book.

We have a Mixwell (early Dormeyer), and a 1950s Dormeyer my mother bought & rarely used. Since most of what we eat was grown or shot within a mile or two of home we actually COOK, as opposed to opening boxes, cans & frozen bags. These older machines are made so they can be serviced & used in perpetuity.

Excellent Justin.

WE're glad you behaved properly. We wouldn't want you on the evening news seen grabbing items from the cart. What would peopke think??!!
I can just see you trhere, salivating. waiting to pounce. but , you restrained yourself. And, you got thhe prize! Now, pics will follow?? right???
John

And some more...

These are old pictures before we moved, but I still have all of them..
