Thanks to my niece, Devin, here are finally the pictures of my vacuum cleaner collection.

Group shot (from left):
1 - 1977 Kirby Classic III 2CB (acquired from my paternal grandparents in August 1998)
2 - Circa 1982 Hoover U3105 Concept One Power Drive (acquired from the wife of my older brother)
3 - 1988 Stark 5000NA Deluxe (Royal 889) (bought for $24.95 at Red, White & Blue Thrift Store)
4 - 1993 Royal 6103 Preferred Collection (acquired via trade from @animebsd for two Eureka canisters)

That's a great looking lineup of vacs there! I had a red Kirby Classic very similar to yours, and sadly I had to part with it this spring because my basement decided to flood and ruin everything down there. At some point, I hope to run across another one like it to re-add to my collection. It's been VERY difficult rebuilding an entire vacuum cleaner collection from scratch.

1988 Stark 5000NA Deluxe (Royal 889)

Bought for $24.95 at the Red, White and Blue Thrift Store: this is just the Royal 889 but with black trim and gray bag.

Believe it or not, this one has the Rite-Hite screw-type adjuster on the rear wheels, as opposed to the April 1988 and later builds with the Au-Toe-Matic toe-touch height adjuster.

1993 Royal 6103 Preferred Collection

This is one of two vacuum cleaners I received on trade in for two Eureka canisters from Brandon Dorney (animebsd).

The other one is the Kirby Legend II whose bag I put on the Classic III.

Nice Pics Ben!

That's a nice Classic III and I know that since it belonged to your Grandparents that makes it a treasured part of your collection. I have the same Legend II bag on my Classic III. Do you have the attachments? I have everything with mine except the Handi Butler. Here's a pic of mine.
I like the Royals too! Didn't know they put black trim on them as early as 1988, maybe was something special they did for Stark.

Yes, Jeff

The 5000NA was indeed a Stark's exclusive model, introduced in 1987 to capitalize on its 55th anniversary (Stark's was founded in SE Portland, in the Sellwood/Westmoreland area, in 1932 by Clarence Stark; its present location at NE Grand Avenue & East Burnside was adopted in the summer of 1966).

It is really just the Royal 889 (1987-88, evident by the method of height adjustment used: the Rite-Hite; mine is this version) or the 9000 (1988-90, evident by the method of height adjustment used: the Au-Toe-Matic), but with the gray bag and black trim; the actual 889/9000 were both burgundy in trim with mauve bags.
