Now we are moved in and almost finished sorting the house out I can turn my attention to the loft! It's smaller than I would like, but an oppertunity to get all my machines unboxed, out and on display!

Havent got them all over yet, and I imagine things will get a little tight when they are but here is my collection! I'll update it as more machines are bought over and unpacked!

In no particular order:

From My Collection

Has a broken hose which I'm always on the lookout to replace. It works, but is heavily taped, has to be held a certain way to make it work and needs some soldering doing.

From My Collection

Is done, complete, always ready for use!

Is restored and finished, although my repair to the plastic poles failed last night with some mild vacuuming. Have spare poles I think. Almost dailied this until the poles went!

Hasnt had a refurb yet, but has been used extensivly in 2 house moves and is lovely! If it wasnt so heavy I would daily it!

Needs a new belt and repairs to the bag, although has been refurbished and I'm not going to do any more for it now apart from a belt!

Needs paint on the handle and a part that screws to the rear wheels re-fitting when I find it. Doesnt groom too well but I think the brushes have gone soft.

From My Collection

Runs beautifully now, but needs some re-assembly when I find the parts and screws, a new handle (with the plug and wiring intact) and the bag is utterly ruined. The oldest machine I have!

Motor still needs to come out for a refurb but works beautifully as is. Bag is perfect, needs a new belt!

Did run well after a rebuild a few years ago but is dead now. Cant remember if I stole the fuse for something before it went into storage or anything simple like that. Have the hose in the garage somewhere.

(My phone started doing its camera issue thing at this stage). Fully refurbed, with unboxed tools somewhere. Writing a little faded due to me holdign the polisher on for too long...

Fully refurbished, even the headlight works!

Fully refurbished and utterly lovely! Has a different rear wheel on one side but as these are made of unobtanium I'm not letting it bother me.

I've always wanted a DC03 and shelled out more money than I would like for this, which works fine but performance is lacking. Cant be bothered to tear it down again, I think its missing the soleplate seal. Leaving it alone for now, will use it to clean off other machines I think

Not technically mine, it was in the house when we moved in. Has an honary place in my collection for now, and will probably refurb it one day if I get bored.

The only new vac I've bought in recent years! Was heavily used at the flat, but can have a quiet life here now we only have one set of stairs!

The loft is getting quite full, but once the rest of our boxes are out of my mums loft I can have another sort out and make some more space! Still got alot of machines to come over too, and a hole to fill in the boarding but I need to buy a saw to cut around the bathroom fan pipe! Currently looks like this:

Will update as and when more machines come over. Looking on freecycle for some nice carpet too, not least to save my knees as I cant stand up in the loft!

More on dates

Sam

Your 375 is pre-ww2 and has a (genuine Hoover) replacement bag. If it were original the words would be underlined in red

One point - it is ESSENTIAL with hoover cloth bags that there is no dust or dirt left in the bag before storage as it will rot them and indeed I would remove them altogether when the cleaners are not in use.

Great collection by the way, I wish I had that much space in my loft

Al

Cheers for the tip Al, a few do need vacuuming out.

I replied to your comment in vintage, I thought those looked like wide wheels on the front! Still, won't grumble!

Bought another 4 machines home just now, will get them on the thread!

Some more, all from the garage this time! Future restoration projects but the garage needs emptying sometime!

My workmate plucked this out of his communal bins for me in Jan! Works really well.

From My Collection

This was £8 from Gumtree and has some excellent* repairs to it, including re-axleing of the wheels and extra bolts through the floor tool!

George gave me this one. Currently using it to clean out other machines!

This was £5 from ebay last year!

From My Collection

No idea what the serial is as the sticker is long gone!

From My Collection

And a rear wheel! Does work well though, even without the wheel

From My Collection

Has a non genuine bag too, but a good quality one!

Messed around with a panorama of the loft so far. It's starting to fill up! Still got some way to go at mums...

I took your advice Al and grabbed the 262's bag. The 262 has never appeared to work very well. Doesnt really groom, doesnt feel like its in contact with the floor much but I've used it 4 times since cleaning the bag out when first bought, and look!

From My Collection

The lux soon had that sorted

From My Collection

Gave it a vac whilst inflated. That was very noisy!

From My Collection

Will do the 119 next, that's been used alot! Have a bojack bag for the 119 and 375 normally. Must buy a bojack one for the 262 if i find one

Bags

Sam

You should never inflate the bag of a 262 (or 160 or 612) with the handle in the upright position as it puts more stress on the base of the bag, this goes for the "coffee can" models too - if you ever see any older Hoover manuals the handle is always in the intermediate position when using tools etc.

Sorry to sound like an old fogey, but I am sure you would not care to see your lovely cleaner devalued.

Now you have the 262 bag cleaned a good compromise (and cheaper than a bojack) is to simply get a Senior/Junior paper bag and put it inside the bag, with the mouth of the paper bag protruding a little from the opening of the cloth bag. Fold the paper bag back on the opening and secure the cloth bag as usual as you are good to go as all the dust will be caught by the paper bag. You might not get quite the inflation but you also wont get the dust leakage either

That's a very good point which I've never really though of before! Yes, all the instruction manual pictures show the cleaner reclined! I shall do that from now on!

Moving forward, once everything is together and some pretty pictures have been taken the bags will come off, and the machines possibly stacked up somewhere else in the loft to make space, which I will need I think! Already 2 deep now...

Not bringing anymore home today, cant be bothered!

Nearly emptied mums loft.

Got the original reciept for this one!

My U1436. Sadly the height adjuster knob is a bit scuffed for some reason.

All my juniors (for now...)

I found the tools for the 119 too

From My Collection

Filled a box with hoses. Got another one somewhere to do

I wish I kept the matching connie I had for this now

Yes Beko, I know the feeling. I live in a small 2 bed terrace, and my loft is nearly full too. Space to store vacs is always short. Don't you just wish you had John Long's house in the US, with many rooms, basement and attic - so much room to store his vacs.

I always joke to Amy that if we win the euromillions I'd have a room per brand! Maybe their own custom made building! I'd probably still get them as cheap as possible too!

Thats what we are, 2 bed mid terrace! Sheds up now but tbh its fecking tiny, and will make a nice workshop but all storage needs to be in the loft! There's still a tiny bit of unboarded space left which may have to be filled so I can make more standing room!

Mine's a Victorian terrace so long but narrow, so much of the loft space is unusable as the roof is too low towards the front and back of the house. I use the back bedroom as a store room as I live alone, so currently I have about 26 machines in the back bedroom, and 20 odd in the loft. Uprights tend to take up less room than cylinders with their hoses and other bits and pieces. Kirbys take up the most room with the caddys and hoses etc.

400 - that's 8 times more than I have, and all Hoovers. John - you really need to open some kind of museum, so that people can come from far and wide to pay homage to Hoover - I bet you have more machines than the Vac museum in Missouri, that Dysonman1 runs (could be wrong though!). I suppose this makes you the Hoover Daddy!

I..

I like the look of the mansion now. There's a link of the comment section of the mansion up for sale.

It looks nice now it's been decorated. Not bad for $2499.000.

I could imagine running my Kirby's around there
